"Europa, casa noastră" este o campanie de informare şi comunicare anuală menită să transpună priorităţile de comunicare ale Comisiei Europene în mediul şcolar. Campania este derulată de Chelgate în numele Reprezentanţei Comisiei Europene în România.

Scopul campaniei:
Campania îşi propune să informeze elevii şi profesorii cu privire la proiectul de integrare europeană (istoria, prezentul şi viitorul acestuia), priorităţile de comunicare ale Comisiei Europene, dar şi informaţii care îi privesc direct (posibilitatea de a studia şi de a lucra în statele membre, implicarea în activităţi de voluntariat, schimburi între tineri, participarea la internship-uri).Campania este deschisă tuturor şcolilor (primare şi gimnaziale), precum şi liceelor din România.

Cand am aflat ca am fost aleasa sa imi reprezint liceul la festivitatea de premiere din Bucuresti a concursului European Label, am stiut ca va fi o experienta incantatoare, insa care s-a dovedit a fi mai mult decat atat. Inainte de a sosi ziua plecarii, ne-am pregatit prezentarea cu ajutorul profesorilor nostri, aratand-o in fata clasei pentru a primi reactii ce aveau sa ne faca sa ne imbunatatim stilul de a prezenta si de a interactiona cu publicul. Am primit diferite reactii si sfaturi, insa toata lumea era increzatoare ca vom face cinste liceului.

La ora 5.30 dimineata eram in Aeroportul din Baia Mare. Aveam emotii puternice...incantare, teama, nerabdare pentru ca aveam sa zbor pentru prima data, chiar daca urma sa fie un zbor scurt, pana la Bucuresti, si aveam sa revad capitala dupa aproape 4 ani. Ma simteam recunoscatoare pentru ca mi s-a oferit aceasta oportunitate de a experimenta un lucru pe care demult imi dorisem sa il incerc si ma straduiam sa tin minte fiecare lucru maruntel si fiecare senzatie pentru a le putea impartasi mai tarziu colegilor mei ceea ce am trait. Ajunsi in avion, pe locurile noastre, stiam ca nu exista cale de intoarcere. Un ghem de emotii imi strangea stomacul atunci cand avionul se puse in miscare si tineam pumnii strans, privind pe gemuletul din dreapta mea. In cateva secunde, zburam si era o senzatie pe care nu o pot compara cu nimic din ceea ce am trait inainte. Eram fascinata de peisajele ce se derulau atat de lent in fata mea si nu puteam sa nu remarc ca parca timpul statea in loc. Zapada alba ce se intindea dedesubtul nostru se confunda adeseori cu norii si desluseam fiecare forma a pamantului, fara a ma dezlipi de minunatul spectacol al naturii. Cand am aterizat pe chipul meu se citea un zambet de incantare, un zambet pe care l-am purtat cu mine intreaga zi. Echipajul din Maramures se indrepta acuma spre locul unde urma sa aiba loc festivitatea, caci mai aveam de mers aprocimativ o ora cu autobusul si apoi cu metroul. Doamnele profesoare ne descriau Bucurestiul cu precizie si naturalete si ma bucuram sa revad locuri minunate precum Arcul de Triumf si parcurile capitalei, scaldate in razele soarelui de primavara. Desi dimineata abia incepea, pentu mine aceasta a fost plina de senzatii poate nesemnificative pentru unii, dar deosebite pentru mine.

La ora 10 am ajuns cu punctualitate la locul intalnirii, asteptati de oameni zambitori si echipaje din intreaga tara. Dupa putin timp ce ne-am luat locurile in sala, festivitatea a inceput cu cuvinte adresate din partea organizatorilor si a invitatiilor deosebiti, urmand apoi prezentarea propriu-zisa a proiectelor fiecarei unitati de invatatmant premiate. Prezentarea proiectului nostru “Immigrants Past and Present. Towards Better Integration?” a fost spontana si placuta, iar dupa reactiile publicului si comentariile invitatilor, ne-a reusit ceea ce ne-am propus si anume, sa scoatem in evidenta cat mai bine calitatile proiectului si munca depusa in realiazarea lui. Mi-a facut o deosebita placere sa ma aflu in fata acelor oameni devotati si implicati in realizarea unor proiecte, care nu se opresc doar la atat, ci reprezinta persoanele pentru care elevii si procesul lor de invatare semnifica cel mai important obiectiv. Nu am putut sa nu remarc emotia cu care fiecare echipa isi prezenta proiectul si madria pe care o simtea fiecare coordonator de proiect atunci cand era expusa lucrarea echipei sale. Doamna profesoara Mariana Hudrea, doamna director Mirela Ardelean si doamna inspector Ligia Durus, care alaturi de mine si colegul meu Patrick intregeau echipa din Maramures, s-au aratat foarte incantate de prestatia noastra si cuvintele si zambetele lor m-au facut sa ma simt recompensata. Dupa ce toate proiectele au fost prezentate, au fost oferite premii fiecarei scoli participante, intr-o atmosfera calda cu sunet de aplauze si lumini stralucitoare ale blitzurilor aparatelor de fotografiat, care au imortalizat momentele intr-o amintire frumoasa. Totul s-a incheiat cu un bufet unde participantii au putut schimba impresii si s-au cunoscut intre ei, in speranta ca se vor mai intalni pentru viitoare proiecte.

Drumul inapoi spre casa a fost obositor, insa energizant in acelasi timp, privind strazile intesate de oameni interesanti ale capitalei. Am asteptat fericita intoarcerea cu avionul , dornica sa descopar o alta perspectiva a peisajului ce se intindea in fata ochilor mei. Calatoria noastra a fost deosebita si senzatiile si emotiile sincere pe care le-am trait m-au facut sa apreciez sansa ce mi s-a oferit si sa fiu recunoscatoare pentru ea si sper ca participarea mea la aceasta experienta a fost pe masura asteptarilor celor implicati. Multumesc!

European Language Label - Patrick

Sunt foarte mandru ca am fost desemnat sa particip la festivitatea de decernare a premiilor European Language Label 2010 din Bucuresti , eveniment organizat de Agentia Nationala pentru Programe Comunitare si Formare Profesionala.
Marturisesc ca acest eveniment mi-a produs o impresie deosebita .
Am avut ocazia sa vad prezentarile a 12 proiecte foarte interesante ale celorlate licee, respectiv scoli generale, cat si posibilitatea de a prezenta proiectul Comenius al Colegiului National “Mihai Eminescu“ intitulat “Imigratia- trecut si prezent ; spre o mai buna integrare ?”
Prezentarea, facuta impreuna cu colega mea de clasa Bianca Juhasz, a decurs foarte bine.
Desi proiectele au avut obiective si rezultate foarte diferite am fost cu totii uniti prin faptul ca am avut parteneri din tari europene si toate promoveaza metode de succes in studiul limbilor straine.
Am fost foarte incantati de prezenta oaspetilor care au onorat festivitatea : d-na Monica Calota, presedinta ANPCDEFP, dl. Leonard Orban, din partea Presedintiei Romaniai, care ne-a tinut un discurs in deschidere despre importanta invatarii si a altor limbi straine in afara de limba engleza si franceza, si despre importanta interactionarii cu vecinii nostri europeni. Personal ma mandresc cel mai mult cu faptul ca am putut discuta in detaliu cu domnul Augustin Mihalache, reprezentantul MECS, despre diverse teme, atat legate de European Label cat si despre alte proiecte europene (Erasmus, ICL). Un cuvant plin de caldura ne-a adresat si reprezentanta Comisiei Europene, d-na Iulia Deutsch.
Fiind si prima mea vizita la Bucuresti pot sa afirm ca am fost impresionat de arhitectura cladirilor din centru si de Arcul de Triumf, vazute mai ales din autobusul dinspre si inspre aeroport. Ce nu imi era cunoscut la prima vedere imi explica doamna profesoara Mariana Hudrea ( muzee, universitatea, locatiile importante) precum si de d-nele Mirela Ardelean , director adjunct al CN Mihai Eminescu si Ligia Durus, inpsectoarea cu programele europene de la ISJ Maramures.
Un alt lucru care mi-a fost strain a fost aglomeratia din capitala.
Intors in oras strazile mi se par acum foarte goale si traficul, inclusive cel de dimineata, foarte fluid.
Regret faptul ca nu am putut sta mai mult in Bucuresti sa vizitam mai in detaliu orasul, nu doar in trecere. Simt ca am ratat o ocazie in plus de a-mi dezvolta cultura. Insa trebuia sa prindem avionul de intoarcere.
Sunt convins ca voi avea si alte ocazii sa descopar frumusetile capitalei si obiectivele ei turistice in viitor.

I have to admit that before the meeting I was quite nervous, not knowing what we were expected to say, but I rapidly calmed down as I met some wonderful people willing to communicate with us, in a calm, friendly way.
I was absolutely delighted with the discussion and very absorbed by the problems we talked about. The Danish teachers were extremely sociable and open-minded, so it was a pleasure and an honour for me to have the chance to be involved in this event. I hope that we will keep in touch with them and we will develop beautiful projects together. Thank you for this opportunity!

Denmark is geographically located in northern Europe. Despite being the smallest of its neighbouring northern countries, it is the oldest. Last week, I learned that the Danes are very communicative, friendly and proud of their country and heritage. It was interesting and refreshing to learn about a new culture and how different its approach is to education. I learned that private schools offer the same subjects and final examinations as the public schools do. In addition, many of the schools also focus on special subjects like physical education, music, theatre, and offer other non-traditional types of courses. For instance, students don't need a diploma in pedagogy to become teachers. Another interesting fact that caught my attention was that high school yards often have gardens in them where the students practice the art of harvesting various types of vegetables such as carrots.
The Danish efterskole discussion was also new to me. The efterskole is a unique danish residential school for students between 14 and 18 years old. One of the things that is unique about the efterskole is the teacher-student relationship. The teacher is responsible for both teaching and supervising the students outside of school hours. This means that teachers and students are together all day from the time the students wake up until they go to bed. The overall student experience is very different than what I am used to, but it seems to me that students learn a lot of things that prepare them for life. What I like most are the extra-school projects and activities that bring the students together and prepare them for the future.

The Danes
Last Wednesday was a special day for me. For the first time I met Danish people. They were all blond and tall, some of them even cute.
I and my classmates went to the ICD and met them because they wanted to know pupils from Romania and,of course, we all spoke in English.
We talked about many things, such as how their country is, their high scools and what they teach. Actually, they were nice people and they invited us, me and my classmates, to go for a month to Denmark, for the summer vacation to see how they teach. It seemed to me a great idea, because it'll be useful for me to go abroad and see their culture and traditions.
They told us that, for them it is more important to socialize and to know how their pupils think rather than simply teach and I found that very interesting.
I hope one day, we'll all go to Denmark to see how is there and to meet a lot of new people . It'll be an interesting experience for me, for all of us.

Proiect Danemarca- Efterskole

Ciclul gimnazial se termina in Danemarca cu clasa a noua, dupa care urmeaza trei ani de liceu.
Clasa a zecea se ofera fie in scolile gimnaziale, fie in efterskoler. La scolile internat elevii locuiesc impreuna tot timpul anului si au ocazia sa opteze pentru materii cu aplicare practica (de exemplu
sport, arta culinara, calarie, design, muzica, pictura etc.), in afara de curriculumul de baza, care contine daneza, matematica, engleza, o a doua limba straina si educatie civica. Clasa a zecea este foarte la moda (nu are nimic de a face cu nivelul elevilor), mai ales in aceste scoli-internat, care sunt destul de scumpe, dar unde elevii se simt foarte bine.

An școlar 2009-2010

Anul școlar 2009-2010 a reprezentat un an de vârf pentru comisia de promovare a proiectelor naționale si internaționale prin obținerea Certificatelor Scoală Europeană 2010 , European Label 2009 ( pentru proiecte inovative in predarea limbilor străine) si o mențiune la Concursul National de proiecte „Made for Europe 2010”.
1. A fost finalizat proiectul Comenius Higher Quality in Education with Family Support. Raportului final a fost aprobat de către ANPCDEFP.
2. Au continuat activitățile in cadrul proiectului “ Imigranții Trecut si prezent. Spre o mai buna integrare?” (Immigrants- Past and Present. Towards Better Integration?)( coord. Mariana Hudrea). Au beneficiat de mobilitati in Germania si Turcia 5 profesori si 6 elevi.
3. Au fost realizate materiale foarte importante in cadrul proiectului : filmarea interviurilor luate unor persoane care au imigrat in Romania sau care s-au întors din Spania)si pregătirea a doua prezentări PowerPoint vizând România, Maramureșul, orașul Baia Mare si realizările CN Eminescu in materie de proiecte europene precum si un istoric al imigrației înspre si dinspre Romania in Turcia.
4. A fost lansat proiectul Comenius “Trecut conflictual. Ghid European pentru supraviețuire pentru tinerii cetățeni europeni” (Conflicting Past-Common Future. a Practical Survival Guide for Young European Citizens)( Coord. Elena Iercosan)
5. Au fost pregatite materiale si s-a participat la reuniunile de proiect din Polonia ( 2 profesori+ 4 elevi - Elena Iercosan si Luminița Faur) si Irlanda( Elena Iercoşan, Dorel Condor ) – reuniune de analiza a primului an de activitate.
6. Au fost redactate materiale de diseminare pentru cele doua proiecte in derulare. Publicarea de articole in presa locala: Glasul Maramuresului , Graiul Maramuresului , Informatia, Gazeta de Maramures Zilei precum si in ziarul online ” Romania Pozitiva”.
7. Pregatirea si depunerea formularelor pentru burse Comenius si Grundvig „Mobilitati” respectiv „Vizite si schimburi”. Cristina Viosovan a obtinut o bursa Comenius in Marea Britanie iar Mariana Hudrea doua burse Grundtvig la Roma si Amsterdam.
8. A fost întocmit dosarul pentru Asistenți lingvistici Comenius( Rodica Mone). Proiectul a fost aprobat pentru acest an școlar.
9. A fost pregătit si s-a depus dosarului pentru obținerea certificatului European Label ( Mariana Hudrea, Simona Dicu, Flavia Costin, Elena Mihali). Festivitatea de decernare a avut loc la Bucuresti. Au participat dir. Marius Craciun, prof. Mariana Hudrea si doua eleve, Andrada Les si Cristina Ivanov.
10. A fost organizata o reuniune de proiect in cadrul parteneriatului Comenius Conflicting Past.( coord. Elena Iercosan). Reuniunea a avut drept invitați parteneri din Germania (2 profesori și 4 elevi), Lituania (3 profesori și 3 elevi) si Polonia (2 profesori si 6 elevi). In cadrul acesteia au fost organizate excursii in MM si activitati legate de tema proiectului (Rezistenta anti-comunista), din care mentionam vizita la Memorialul Victimelor Comunismului din Sighetu Marmatiei, unde elevii au avut posibilitatea sa participe si la o „conferinta” la finalul vizitei ghidate, unde au pus intrebari ghizilor. Activitatile realizate in scoala s-au finalizat printr-un portofoliu identic pentru fiecare tara, care contine informatiile aduse de fiecare tara in parte referitoare la propria rezistenta anti-comunista, precum si intrebarile si temele de discutie abordate in cadrul reuniunii.
11. Continuarea proiectului Studii Europene, clasa a XI-a F, prof. Elena Iercosan.
12. Acordarea unui interviu postului Radio Romania Cultural pe tema proiectelor CN Mihai Eminescu ( Mariana Hudrea)
13. Participarea in proiectul OnAir al Radio Romania ( prezentarea proiectelor e-learning din scoala coord. Mariana Hudrea).
14. Participarea la proiectul Comenius coordonat de catre Agentia Nationala de Monitorizare a Presei Active Watch (Clasa a X-a E si prof. Mariana Hudrea). Proiectul a urmarit educarea elevilor in spiritul interpretarii corecte a articolelor aparute in media.
15. Participarea la reuniunile de informare asupra proiectelor europene, Bucuresti ( Elena Iercosan, Cristina Visovan)
16. Oferirea de consultanta pentru obtinerea a trei burse Grundtvig pentru Florentina Baciu, Ioana Pop si Luminita Grigorescu de la CJAPP MM, primele doua având ore si in CN Mihai Eminescu.( proiecte aprobate)
17. Oferirea de consultanta pentru scrierea unui proiect Comenius pentru Grup Școlar Nenițescu. ( Proiect aprobat).
18. Alcătuirea dosarului si obținerea certificatului „Scoala Europeana” pentru a III-a oara consecutiv.(Mariana Hudrea, Ileana Vasilescu, Elena Iercosan, Rodica Mone, Nicolae Weisz, Simona Dicu, Flavia Costin, Cristina Visovan. La festivitatea de la București au participat dir. Adj. Mirela Ardelean, Mariana Hudrea si elevul Marius Anitas).
19. Obținerea unei mențiuni la concursul Made for Europe 2010, Bacau. ( Marius Anitas, Dan Tecar).
20. Realizarea unor excursii vizând obiective turistice in Romania si in străinătate ( Dorel Condor, Ioan Mociran, Alexandra Spatacean).
21. Elevii CN Mihai Eminescu au participat la Concursul international „Chanson sur scene”. Eleva Manuela Grigoruta a castigat o bursa de doua saptamani in Franta.
22. Proiectul internaţional „Pantomimes”, Orthez, Franţa, coordonat de Simona Ungureanu si realizat cu sprijinul Mariei Ciumau si un grup de elevi ai liceului nostru, mai 2010.
23. In 16 iunie a avut loc , in cadrul emisiunii d-lui Ioan Butuza la E-Maramures , un Talk show dedicat împlinirii a 10 ani de proiecte internaționale la CN Mihai Eminescu Baia Mare. Au participat Mariana Hudrea si Florian Nechita însoțiți de elevii: Patrick Bohony, Petruta Boga, Xanta Lukacsovits si Andrada Les.
24. Alcatuirea documentatiei pentru Bacalaureatul francofon ( conducerea liceului si catedra de limba franceza)
25. Participarea la Campionatul National "Tinerii dezbat" ( locul IV), Baia Mare , 29-30 mai 2010

Toate aceste activităţi au condus la formarea spiritului de echipa atat in randul cadrelor didactice implicate cat si al elevilor. Participanţii la activităţi au beneficiat de deschiderea oferita de acest gen de activitati. Unii participanti la mobilitati au calatorit pentru prima data cu avionul , cu metroul sau cu bacul. Au invatat cum sa-si prezinte tara si cum sa lucreze in echipe internaţionale.

180 de elevi din clasele a XI-a si a X-a au participat astazi la prezentarea examenelor de competenta lingvistica pentru limbile engleza, germana, italiana si spaniola, marcand astfel ziua europeana a limbilor moderne.

Paradox, serendipity, fluency and extensive reading

These are some of the key words that come into my mind when I try to put down some impressions after the Fisher conference held in Bucharest on the 3rd - 4th September 2010.
The conference took place at Rin Grand Hotel and the facilities were excellent. I don't think that anybody could complain about the conditions the Fisher team offered.
On the 13th floor there was the Paradise – at least for us, English teachers – a corridor of books, Cds, dictionaries, flashcards – all the important publishers – old and new – trying to present their products. There's nothing new in all this. We have all seen bookstalls so far and of course you need lots of money to really enjoy walking from one publisher to the other.
So, what was so extraordinary about this conference? I really do not know where to start. Could it be the fascinating moment when Jeremy Harmer – yes, the Jeremy Harmer whose books we all study for our exams – confessed that he himself is bothered by dilemmas that won't let him sleep at night. The paradox he spoke about regards us. Isn't that a paradox that we, Romanian teachers are so fluent and good at English even though we were taught this language by the old audio-lingual (non-communicative) methods?
Making a clear distinction between communicative and non-communicative language teaching he made us remember the great figures that marked our experience as learners of English. We all have somewhere, at the bottom of carton boxes books written by Georgiana Galateanu Farnoaga, Andrei Bantas, Leon Levitchi. And, yet, we always make a good impression wherever we go as almost perfect speakers. We did not have the, by now consacrated listening and speaking classes. Instead, we used to read and to translate a lot besides doing the well-known grammar exercise.
So, back to the old methods? Definitely NOT. The message and the conclusion of all the English course writers and teachers that delighted us with their lectures was that we do need to use the communicative approach, that we must try to get the best out of our students' creativity, that we do need to guide them through the magic land of reading, that we must encourage them to play with words and that from time to time – maybe too often – we do need to apologize in front of our teacher colleagues because our classes tend to be noisier.
And yet the question was still there. What is so special about us Romanian English teachers? We grew up with old methods and we master the language as if taught by modern techniques.
The answer came from all the corners of the conference hall. We practiced a lot individually, we participated at different courses, we learnt step by step along with our students, we wanted, we had to, it was and it still is a powerful intrinsic motivation.
Obviously, we do not have such students in our classes. Who would need us with so highly motivated students?
(Un)fortunately, our educables are far from being motivated in any way. Therefore, much of our teaching depends on our creativity, flexibility and on the way we bring variety to the classroom. We should make our students aware of the fact that they are extremely lucky – at least from the perspective of learning a foreign language nowadays. We had little and we got this far. They have a lot. How far could they get in their language performance and knowledge if they wanted?
If we could make them ponder over this, they might appreciate more all the effort we do to help them master English better than we used to do it at their age. It is important that they consciously use all the given opportunities to absorb English piece by piece.
It is impossible to put into words all I learnt in these two days of intensive courses about HOW to be more Effective by being at the same time Affective, about how to believe in ourselves and in our students, about how to handle mixed ability classes or about how to keep both primary and advanced students focused. We all studied about these issues in their books, but nothing can be compared to actually facing these teachers and listening to lectures based on many, many years of experience.
It would be a naivety not to notice that this conference also had a commercial purpose. In fact our lecturers do have connections – in one way or another - with one or more of the publishing houses represented by Fisher. But one thing is undisputable. Nobody can question the high quality of every second we spent there. All the sessions had been thoroughly prepared and we had the opportunity of being students again. I’ll just name some of the courses we had:

• The power of narrative – David Evans
• Teaching an learning – grammar: yesterday, today, tomorrow – Gary Anderson
• The Fluency paradox – Jeremy Harmer

• Keeping advanced students motivated – Tim Herdon
• Music makes the world go round – Vanessa Reilly
Both the plenary lectures and the workshops made us forget about the reality that waited for us outside those walls: unmotivated students and low salaries – the worst combination. But it was worth all the financial and time effort. It was quite exhausting at a certain moment since we had sessions from 9 am to 7 pm. Nevertheless, we were also spoilt with a luxurious lunch at the Boemian Restaurant on the 1st floor of the hotel.
What else could a teacher ask at the beginning of the new school year?
Quite nothing. And still the cherry on the cake was to come: a one hour concert that can't be described in one word. Imagine Jeremy Harmer reciting poems about love, marriage, breakups, engagement and playing the guitar accompanied by Steve Bingham who played both electric and classical violin.
So, besides the rucksack of free sample books, grammar books, catalogues, besides the enriching teaching experience we also had part of an amazing artistic moment, called „Touchable Dreams.”
Nobody can expect a teacher to start school optimistically and positively under the given circumstances in Romania so I simply consider myself lucky to have been given this opportunity of starting even this school year with positive energy.

Curs de formare profesionala la Cambridge

In perioada 18 iulie – 31 iulie 2010 am participat la un curs de formare profesionala in Cambridge, Marea Britanie. Participarea mea la curs s-a datorat unui grant Comenius, finantat de catre Comisia Europeana. Am aflat de exista unor astfel de cursuri de formare de la doamna profesoara Mariana Hudrea si ulterior de pe site-ul Agentiei Nationale www.llp-ro.ro. In baza de date a Agentiei Nationale se regaseste o mare varietate de astfel de activitati de formare pentru personalul implicat in educatia scolara. Cursul pe care mi l-am ales – Utilizarea noilor tehnologii in predarea (limbii engleze) la clasa - a fost organizat de catre Bell International, o institutie renumita in intreaga lume pentru cursurile de limba engleza oferite tinerilor, adultilor, dar si profesorilor.

La campus-ul Bell din Cambrdige au fost organizate diferite cursuri, printre care si cel la care am participat eu. Am avut prilejul sa intalnesc profesori din peste 20 de tari (din Europa, Asia, Australia, America de Sud), iar in cadrul cursului pe care l-am urmat au fost profesori din Italia, Spania, Portugalia, Bulgaria, Franta, Macau si Taiwan. Mi-am facut astfel noi prieteni, din tari diferite, prieteni cu care am putut sa impartasesc experienta didactica si carora am putut sa le ofer informatii despre Romania, si nu in ultimul rand despre judetul Maramures si orasul Baia Mare. Totodata am aflat lucruri noi despre sistemele educationale din aceste tari, dar si despre cultura acestor popoare.

Pe parcursul celor doua saptamani, pe langa cursurile de baza, ama vut posibilitatea sa particp la 4 ateliere de lucru diferite (despre utilizarea filmuletelor in exercitii de vorbire, a cantecelor in altfel de exercitii decat cele de tipul ‘fill in’, despre folosirea metodei structurale in predarea limbii engleze) la doua seminarii pe teme culturale si la doua cursuri tinute de profesori renumiti in domeniul limbii engleze – domnul Adrian Underhill si domnul Michael McCarthy.

Am beneficiat si de un program social care a inclus un tur ghidat al orasului Cambridge, o vizita la Londra, o seara de film, doua seri in care am putut lua parte la un program muzical, o seara de quiz si bineinteles, petreceri de bun-venit si ramas-bun. In plus s-au organizat excursii in diferite localitati din apropierea Cambridg-ului (Ely, Bury St. Edmunds, Woodbridge), o excursie la Southwald, Suffolk (orasel la Marea Nordului), o seara de teatru la Londra, un tur cu barca pe faimosul rau Cam si nu in ultimul rand o seara de teatru la Colegiul St. John unde am vizionat – Imblanzirea scorpiei de William Shakespeare.

Au fost doua saptamani de vis in care am explorat o mica parte din Marea Britanie, am cunoscut oameni din peste 20 de tari, mi-am facut noi prieteni, am cunoscut personalitati din domeniu, doua saptamani in care am invatat multe lucruri noi despre cum putem folosi calculatorul si internetul in predarea limbii engleze (folosirea programului HotPotatoes pentru realizarea de exercitii, crearea de pagini web si de blog-uri, folosirea unei platforme de invatare precum Moodle, a programului Paint.Net pentru exercitii de vorbire si de descriere a unor fotografii, a programelor Audacity si a diferitelor site-uri disponibile pe internet pentru exercitii de corectare a pronuntiei, folosirea filmuletelor de pe youtube pentru exercitii de ascultare si de vorbire, folosirea programului Word pentru exercitii de creativitate in scriere etc.). Intentionez sa creez un blog pe care vor fi disponibile in curand link-uri utile pentru toti cei interesati sa foloseasca noile tehnologii in predarea la clasa si unde voi putea fi contactata pentru orice informatii suplimentare.

Consider ca astfel de activitati de formare sunt extreme de benefice pentru orice profesor si de aceea doresc sa-mi incurajez colegii sa acceseze pagina web a Agentiei Nationale si sa solicite obtinerea unor granturi asemanatoare. Nimic nu se compara cu o astfel de experienta de viata.

BAC 2010

Se zice că în tot răul este şi un bine. Viaţa ne învaţă acest lucru la fiecare pas.
Anul acesta a fost primul an în care am avut şansa să predau limba engleză în Colegiul Naţional „Mihai Eminescu”. Aş avea multe de spus despre acest prim an, dar mă voi opri doar la ultima experienţă, extrem de plăcută – evaluarea elevilor din clasa a XII-a, aceea de a avea şansa să văd oameni în devenire, să dialoghez, să ascult, să citesc rânduri – uneori puerile, alteori extrem de mature şi responsabile, uneori opuse viziunilor noastre, alteori asemănătoare.
Nominalizarea in comisie a venit, din păcate, pe fondul grevei cadrelor didactice. Sunt lucruri care uneori nu-ti fac plăcere însă viața te confrunta cu situații cărora trebuie să le faci faţă.
Am fost încântată sa constat originalitatea majorităţii lucrărilor scrise . Nu am citit nici o lucrare asemănătoare şi le-am citit pe toate împreună cu colega mea, doamna profesoară Cristina Vişovan. Atât la proba scrisă cât şi la proba orală elevii au dat dovada de competenţe de comunicare demne de un liceu cu clase bilingv engleză.
Nu regret nici o secundă că i-am putut evalua pe unii dintre cei mai buni elevi ai judeţului nostru, că m-am putut convinge de un lucru extraordinar. Optimismul pedagogic este cheia succesului dascălului. Dacă îţi faci meseria cu drag, chiar şi în vremuri tulburi, dacă sincer crezi că aceşti copii au şansă să devină în primul rând oameni şi apoi buni specialişti în domeniul pe care şi-l aleg ei, dacă poţi să vezi valoarea în fiecare dintre ei, atunci poţi să ai satisfacţia că la sfârşitul anilor de liceu, atunci când le este dat să scrie despre prima lor zi în acest colegiu vei avea în faţa ta oameni pregătiţi pentru o nouă etapă.
Vei sta atunci uimit în faţa lucrărilor în care apar amănunte ce i-au marcat şi de care nici nu erai conştient ca dascăl. Vei observa că i-au marcat portretele de pe pereţii clasei, figuri ale unor oameni despre care nu ştiau nimic, că au fost bucuroşi să fie numiţi o familie şi să descopere pe parcurs că aşa şi era, că au văzut în dirigintele lor o a doua mamă, sau dimpotrivă i-au remarcat tinereţea şi priceperea, că au început experienţele lor de liceeni prin jocuri şi socializare sau că au fost aşezaţi în semicerc pentru a se simţi mai confortabil.
Dacă eşti un dascăl adevărat vei vedea că în patru ani ai format oameni care să fie în stare să analizeze, să argumenteze, să respecte, să asculte şi să decidă. Vei vedea că au învăţat să lucreze în echipă, să comunice şi să se prezinte decent la un examen, chiar dacă nu i s-a dat mare importanţă şi chiar dacă acum se încearcă să li se minimalizeze meritele şi reuşitele. Pentru unii subiectele au fost mult sub nivelul lor de engleză, dar niciunul nu a părut plictisit, nu a luat în derâdere examenul, chiar dacă profesorii cu vechime au fost în grevă. Dacă timpul ar fi permis ar fi fost o plăcere să porţi diferite discuţii, unele chiar contradictorii doar de dragul de a-i asculta. A fost plăcut să vezi că au curajul de a fi sinceri şi de a critica însuşi sistemul de învăţământ cu argumente, nu doar pentru a şoca şi că reuşesc să critice fără a jigni. Sunt convinsă că unii dintre ei au creat probleme de-a lungul anilor profesorilor de la clasă dar cu siguranţă nu au făcut nimic condamnabil la aceste examene. Chiar şi aceia în ochii cărora puteai citi spiritul de rebel, de nonconformist s-au prezentat decent şi matur. Tot respectul pentru fiecare dintre ei, pentru toţi cei 96 de elevi şi pentru toţi cei care i-au pregătit.
As fi vrut sa transcriu câteva rânduri răzleţe din unele lucrări care dovedesc implicarea şi succesul unor profesori în procesul de a forma caractere umane deosebite, de a lăsa amprenta lor pozitivă asupra personalității elevilor. Cu siguranta unii dintre dumneavoastră, mă refer la dascăli, v-ati fi recunoscut ca diriginţi în rândurile scrise de elevi.

Scoala Europeana

Ministrul Educatiei, Cercetarii, Tineretului si Sportului, Daniel Petru Funeriu ofera premii joi, 22 aprilie 2010, cele 60 de unitati de invatamant preuniversitar castigatoare ale celei de-a VII-a editii a Competitiei Nationale "Scoala Europeana". Festivitatea de decernare a titlului "Scoala Europeana" se va desfasura la Palatul Parlamentului - Sala Spiru Haret. Fiecare unitate de invatamant va primi certificatul si trofeul "Scoala Europeana - 2010".

Pe primele locuri la editia din acest an se afla Liceul de Arte "Balasa Doamna" din Targoviste (judetul Dambovita) - 198 de puncte, Colegiul Tehnic "Mihai Bacescu" din Falticeni, (judetul Suceava) - 194 de puncte si Grupul Scolar Industrial "Stefan Procopiu" din Vaslui (191 puncte). Certificatul are o valabilitate de trei ani, dupa care scoala trebuie sa concureze din nou pentru a reconfirma titlul obtinut.

La editia din acest an, un numar de 7 unitati scolare obtin, pentru a treia oara, certificatul "Scoala Europeana" (2004, 2007, 2010).
Acestea sunt: Grupul Scolar Industrial "Stefan Procopiu" din Vaslui, Colegiul Economic "Ion Ghica" din Targoviste, Colegiul National "Mihai Eminescu" din Baia Mare, Scoala cu clasele I-VIII "Andrei Saguna" din Deva, Colegiul Economic din Buzau, Centrul Scolar pentru Educatie Incluziva nr. 1 Oradea si Colegiul National "Octavian Goga" din Sibiu. De asemenea, alte 17 unitati scolare obtin ,pentru a doua oara, certificatul si trofeul "Scoala Europeana".
Competitia Nationala "Scoala Europeana"se adreseaza tuturor unitatilor de invatamant preuniversitar implicate in activitati/programe/proiecte de cooperare europeana. La editia din acest an s-au inscris 148 de unitati de invatamant preuniversitar din 36 de judete si din municipiul Bucuresti.
Evaluarea candidaturilor scolilor inscrise in competitie s-a realizat dupa urmatoarele criterii: coerenta activitatilor derulate in cadrul proiectelor/programelor comunitare cu politica generala a institutiei scolare, integrarea activitatilor derulate in cadrul proiectelor/programelor comunitare in programul curent al scolii, asigurarea egalitatii de sanse, varietatea disciplinelor de studiu (ariilor curriculare) implicate/ activitatilor educative scolare si extrascolare, continuitate si constanta in derularea de activitati/proiecte/programe comunitare, strategie si modalitati de implementare si evaluare, strategie si modalitati de valorizare (diseminare si exploatare a rezultatelor/produselor), dezvoltarea dimensiunii europene a educatiei prin activitatile de cooperare europeana si calitatea documentelor de candidatura (documente manageriale, formular de candidatura si portofoliu).

European Label 2009 acordat Colegiului National "Mihai Eminescu" Baia Mare pentru proiectul Higher Quality in Education with Family Support.

European Label - Certificatul European pentru proiecte din domeniul predarii si invatarii limbilor straine - este o initiativa a Comisiei Europene care isi propune sa evidentieze si sa recompenseze cele mai inovatoare si creative proiecte din acest domeniu. Lansata in anul 1998 in tarile membre ale Uniunii Europene, actiunea s-a bucurat de un real succes, fapt ce a determinat Comisia Europeana sa o extinda si in tarile aflate in curs de aderare.

European Label in Romania.

Proiectele selectionate primesc un certificat semnat de Comisarul European pentru Educatie, Formare, Cultura si Multilingvism, si de Ministrul Educatiei si Cercetarii din tara noastra.

TOEIC Online

Astazi, Colegiul National Mihai Eminescu, in parteneriat cu Info Project- Centru Autorizat de Testare TOEIC si TFI, a organizat cu succes primul examen TOEIC Online pentru verificarea competentelor de vorbire si scriere in limba engleza.
Acest examen, impreuna cu cel pentru lectura si ascultare , echivaleaza proba de competente pentru examenul de Bacalaureat.

La examen au participat 5 elevi: trei de la Colegiul National Dragos Voda din Sighetu Marmatiei, o eleva de la Colegiul National Mihai Eminescu si un elev de la Colegiul Tehnic Aurel Vlaicu din Baia Mare.

Examenul a fost o provocare nu numai pentru elevi ci si pentru personalul de specialitate al Colegiului Eminescu.
Administratoarea de retea, Camelia Ciulean, a lucrat doua saptamani pentru a pregati impecabil reteaua pentru ziua examenului.
Laboratorul Multimedia a fost dotat cu casti si microfoane performante. S-au realizat cateva testari prealabile pentru a primi acceptul ETS Global (http://www.etseurope.org/)

Iata cateva din impresiile participantilor:

Camelia Ciulean: Pregatirea examenului TOEIC online a fost o experienta noua care m-a ajutat sa progresez in meseria mea. A fost primul examen de acest gen pe care l-am pregatit si consider ca a fost o mare provocare. Am invatat sa instalez programul, sa realizez conectarea la platforma. Ma bucur ca examenul a decurs fara nici o problema si ma bucur ca am putut sa le fiu de folos elevilor care au dorit sa sustina acest examen.
Oana Ardelean: Pentru mine examenul TOEIC Online a insemnat concentrare maxima, raspunsuri concrete. Consider ca a fost o evaluare a 12 ani in care am studiat limba engleza.Examenul a fost destul de greu, dar in acelasi timp interesant si a fost o modalitate excelenta pentru a-mi testa cunostintele de limba engleza.
Il recomand tuturor celor care vor sa traiasca o noua provocare si sa obtina un certificat cu recunoastere internationala.
Alexandra Bout-Odarca: Examenul TOEIC mi s-a parut unul foarte interesant. A fost pentru mine o cu totul alta experienta fata de examenele pe care le-am mai dat. Unul dintre motive a fost acela ca examenul a fost computerizat , ca totul s-a intamplat online iar totul a fost foarte bine organizat.
Maria Julean: Desi emotiile , ca de obicei, au rolul lor in examene, testul mi s-a parut foarte accesibil. Subiectele sunt interesante, iar totul este bine structurat.Intr-adevar iti testeaza toate apritudinile in vederea evaluarii competentelor de limba engleza.A fost o experienta frumoasa( si reusita!!!). Certificatul imi va folosi atat la examenul de Bacalaureat cat si la admiterea la facultate. Sper sa-l pot folosi si la angajare. Mi-am dorit sa dau acest examen in special pentur ca echivaleaza BAC-ul. Acuma ma pot concentra mai mult la celelalte materii pentur examene.
Tudor Stejeran: Participand si la examenele Cambridge si TOEFL pot spune ca sunt multe asemanari intre aceste trei tipuri de examen.Sunt multumit ca am sustinut acest examen reusind sa echivalez proba de competente lingvistice la Bacalaureat.
Cristina Ivanov: Examenul pe care l-am sustinut astazi a fost o experienta noua si cu siguranta foarte utila. Nu a fost greu si ii incurajez pe toti cei care se gandesc sa-l dea sa nu mai stea pe ganduri. Acest examen iti ofera siguranta ca vei fi admis la facultatea dorita.

Impresii din Germania- Simona Dicu

Reuniunea de proiect din Germania (Seelze, 1-6 decembrie 2009)
Oportunitatea de a participa la activitatile desfasurate in cadrul proiectului “Immigrants Past and Present; Towards Greater Integration”, coordonat de doamna profesoara Mariana Hudrea a reprezentat pentru mine un mare pas inainte in cariera didactica, dar si in planul dezvoltarii mele personale. Titlul proiectului mi-a captat atentia inca de la inceput, deoarece provin dintr-o familie multietnica, bunica mea fiind de origine sasa din Banat si astfel, am fost extrem de interesata sa particip activ la toate activitatile organizate pe parcursul desfasurarii acestui proiect.
In decembrie 2009 mi s-a oferit sansa de a paricipa la Reuniunea de Proiect gazduita de scoala Georg-Buchner Gymnasium din Seelze, Germania. Toate activitatile desfasurate in cadrul reuniunii de proiect au fost interesante si din fiecare am reusit sa invat lucruri importante. In prima zi a reuniunii de proiect, elevii din cele 6 tari partenere au prezentat interviurile realizate cu imigranti din tarile lor. Elevii au avut astfel ocazia sa lucreze in echipa pentru realizarea interviurilor si a montajului si sa exerseze limba engleza, pe care pana in acel moment au avut posbilitatea sa o vorbeasca doar la scoala in cadrul orelor de limba engleza. Mi-am dat seama cat de mult ii stimuleaza pe elevi munca in echipa, ei ajungand sa constientizeze ca ceea ce ei invata la orele de limba engleza le foloseste pe tot parcursul vietii. Prezentarea reusita pe care au realizat-o elevii romani a avut ca rezultat cresterea increderii lor in fortele proprii. Daca la inceput au avut emotii deoarece prezentarea era facuta intr-o limba straina si in fata unei sali pline, pe parcurs emotiile au disparut. Astfel de prezentari de proiecte ii pregatesc pe elevi si din punct de vedere psihologic, deoarece majoritatea dintre ei vor avea de sustinut examene intr-o limba straina sau interviuri pentru universitati sau pentru un loc de munca. Constientizand toate aceste lucruri ca profesor, am inceput sa pun mai mult accent la clasa pe dezvoltarea muncii in echipa si a celor 8 competente chieie, prin implicarea elevilor in proiecte de grup si prezentarea acestora in fata colegilor.
Tot in prima zi a reuniunii de proiect am avut ocazia sa asisa la desfasurarea unei ore de limba engleza la liceu. Astfel, am putut observa cum se invata limba engleza intr-o tara din Europa de Vest si felul in care elevii sunt angajati in activitatile care se desfasoara in cadrul orei de curs. Am fost placut impresionata de modul activ in care elevii se implicau, dar si de disciplina de care dadeau dovada. In scolile romanesti profesorul trebuie sa fie mult mai creativ, iar lectiile pe care le preda sa fie mult mai interesante pentru a capta atentia elevilor. Mai mult, in Germania se pune foarte mult accent pe lucrul suplimentar pe care fiecare elev il realizeaza dupa cursuri, dar si pe felul in care acestia activeaza la ora de curs. Un mare avantaj pe care scoala germana o are este si numarul mai mic de elevi dintr-o clasa. Metodele de predare sunt deasemenea putin diferite, punandu-se mult accent pe munca de cercetare si documentare din partea elevilor. In cadrul scolii exista un Internet Café pentru elevi, unde acestia aveau acces gratuit pentru a cauta informatiile necesare, coordonati de catre profesor. Asadar, elevii sunt invatati inca din liceu cum sa caute si cum sa utilizeze informatia pe care Internetul le-o ofera. Toate aceste lucruri le vor fi deosebit de utile in facultate, dar si pe parcursul intregii vieti. Am ajuns la concluzia ca elevii trebuie invatati cum sa caute informatii, unde sa le gaseasca si cum sa interpreteze informatia in mod corect. Ca profesori trebuie sa punem mai mult accent pe partea practica a lucrurilor de care elevii vor avea nevoie in viata, ajutandu-I sa-si dezvolte cele 8 competente cheie.
In a doua zi a reuniunii de proiect, partenerii germani au invitat la scoala patru imigranti de diverse nationalitati. Elevii au fost organizati pe grupe, fiecare grupa fiind formata din elevi de nationalitati diferite, acestia fiind nevoiti sa utilizeze limba engleza pentru a comunica si a se intelege intre ei. Scopul activitatii a fost realizarea de interviuri cu imigrantii, iar la final elevii au trebuit sa le prezinte celorlati colegi ce au aflat despre experienta de imigrant a persoanei intervievate. Eu am avut sansa de a fi repartizata in grupa elevilor care au intervievat o romanca (de origine sasa) din Banat. Activitatea mi s-a parut extrem de interesanta, deoarece experienta doamnei Lotte Henz a fost atat de asemanatoare cu cea a bunicii mele. Asadar, am gasit raspuns si la unele intrebari pe care le aveam in legatura cu modul de viata a sasilor din Banat si despre deportarile pe care acestia le-au suferit dupa cel de al doilea Razboi Mondial.
In a treia zi a reuniunii de proiect, grupele de elevi au realizat impreuna cate o prezentare scrisa a rezultatelor celor 5 interviuri cu imigrantii. Au avut astfel ocazia sa-si exerseze si competentele digitale in vederea realizarii unei prezentari cat mai reusite. Toate aceste prezentari au fost publicate pe Blogul proiectului, elevii fiind foarte mandri ca ceea ce ei au realizat va putea fi consultat si de alte personae interesate.
Ultima zi a reuniunii de proiect a fost deosebit de emotionanta pentru mine. Partenerii germani ne-au oferit o excursie la Hamburg, cel de-al doilea mare oras al Germaniei, unde am vizitat BallinStadt Museum, muzeul imigratiei. Ca vizitatori am putut reconstitui calatoria imigrantilor europeni spre America in cea de-a doua jumatate a secolului al XIX-lea si pana la cel de al doilea Razboi Mondial. In una dintre incaperile muzeului exista o baza de date in care vizitatorul putea sa-si gaseasca rudele care au emigrat in urma cu multi ani inspre Statele Unite. Am avut norocul sa gasesc adresa unei rude apropiate a bunicii mele, urmand ca tatal meu sa ia legatura cu ei.
Asadar, participarea la Reuniunea de Proiect din Germania mi-a deschis noi orizonturi mai ales din punct de vedere profesional. Nimic nu se compara cu schimbul de idei, metode noi, experiente pe care profesorii din diverse tari si le impartasesc. Participarea la proiecte europene reprezinta o sansa extraordinara pentru profesori, deoarece ai ocazia sa analizezi toata munca pe care o depui dintr-o alta perspectiva, comparand si observand cum lucreaza colegii din alte tari. Pentru mine, participarea la activitatile derulate in cadrul proiectlui a reprezentat sansa de a vedea ca lucrurile stau putin diferit fata de cum credeam eu initial, faptul ca exista anumite lucruri pe care as putea sa le schmb,in asa fel incat elevii sa poata beneficia cat mai mult de pe urma lectiilor pe care le sustin.

The first feeling that I had when I entered the county library was the one that I had something really valuable in front of my eyes,and even if I had been there before, I didn't appreciate it enough.
The atmosphere was cozy , but it had something special at the same time - a kind of silence that meant something, that made me think at the power that knowledge offers you , at the possibility of knowing so many things and becoming a better person.
I have never thought before of the fact that reading a book is like finding a new part of yourself through the ideas of someone else, that reading a book could never be a waste of time because knowledge is timeless, that reading a book cannot be replaced by something else because it is a unique moment.
In the end I realized something very important : that every book in this library waits for me, and the things that I will learn from every book I read will be forever mine because I will understand them in my own way, just like all the books in the county library have been specially written for everyone of us.

Reunion in Germany

I woke up in the morning and the sun became to shine. I opened the windows and had some fresh air not knowing at that moment that the sun would join us on our way to Germany, with its brilliant highlights and joyful rise.
I had already prepared my luggage the day before and I also prepared some warm clothes to wear on the trip.
I had cleaned my room the day before , put my books in order, dusted my furniture and mde my bed , covered it with my white blanket . I knew I’ll miss my room, my world , my small paradise.
On the bus to Cluj I had a lot of good feelings about this trip. I was nervous and enthusiastic.
We arrived at a hotel in the middle of the night. It was prepared to offer us all of its comfort. I had a nice sleep in a big bed and, before falling asleep I was thinking about the program , trying to imagine it, discover it in my mind.
We almost missed the plane to Dortmund. I had never flown before. I remember how cold and sleepy I was. While we were checked at the airport , I was thinking : why if I can’t pass because I have something which is not allowed in my handbag, what if…
The plane was on the air. We were 11000 metres over all those small lights on mist . Everything was lighted by those small lights, which were under us.
We had a very fast and silent train to Hannover. I couldn’t wait seeing my hostess, because we were already friends – I had hosted her during the reunion from Romania and we had such a nice time together.
The first day passed in a hectic way, because the city was expecting us with its festive colour. A lot of people from all parts of Germany came to Hannover just for tasting its famous Gluwein and its famous spicy sausages, to enjoy the Christmas Market, to buy presents for their special someone and their families.
We started the program of the project on Wednesday and the Germans really impressed us with a concert presented by the school band.

We had prepared for the “Presentation Day” a film on Baia Mare and three interviews that managed to capture the attention of the participants. Other groups had good presentations too, with nice introduction that presented their hard work of studying the immigration problem , so as the first day of the program really made me be enthusiastic about the next ones.
The next day we participated in a couple of English classes and I noticed how active the students were, thirsty to catch all points of the lesson, doing brainstorming and team working. Also, almost all classes had a video projector, so as the teachers could do more interesting lessons and easy to remember.
I didn’t like the fact that their classes lasted 90 minutes, I think it is pretty hard to concentrate all this time , without a break , every day. But, I guess you can get used with almost everything.
We visited an amazing particular museum of Immigration on the last day, which was not far from Hamburg. There were a lot of mannequins made of wood which were typically dressed for those times and for the zone they came from. Every mannequin had near to it some kind of phone where one could listen to their story in English or German. It really impressed me the story of a 12 years old boy who had to leave Germany for America and in that registration he manifested his feelings about this fact , how sorry he felt that he had to leave his friends . There were also a lot of maps, writings, travel diaries and paintings, drawings. It is there a section of the museum where you can go to the board of the boat “Imperator” ,a boat lighted with faith and fear of all those immigrants leaving. I bought a poster of this amazing boat because it really tests my imagination and I will put it on the wall, near “Pont Alexandre Trois” and “The Athom of Bruxelles “ a poster for wall.
Later, that day , we had a short walk in Hamburg and we saw a Parade on the road, dedicated to Christmas and all what Christmas means .
We had to leave early because we had to catch the train Hannover – Dortmund. We caught it even if we were nervous about it , because when we had to take the first train the fact that the lines of trains changed , wasn’t mentioned in English and we were not able to understand German.
At least, we slept at a hotel in Dortmund, not far from the airport ( lucky for us) and prepared for our trip back to sweet Romania.
On the plane I was very thirsty and I was just happy for a moment because I found on my purse 2 lost euros so as I could buy a tea. But, unfortunately, while waiting the steward, I lost my precious coins somewhere under my seat so, for almost half an hour I was preoccupied to find a way to get my euros back. It wasn’t enough space so I just kept on trying and disturbing the others. When we arrived in Cluj-Napoca the lady who sat behind me found my two euros. So I just put it in my purse back and returned home with some money so as my mother could notice that I can save money when I want to.
It was an important experience for me because it offered me a new perspective and I’m happy that I could spend almost a week in such a beautiful city , for which I will always keep my best thoughts and I’m looking forward to visiting Germany again.

Fall, two months ago, a day of school was just starting. That morning brought a fresh air in our class, in our school, in our mentalities. Four students from the NCME, who were about to leave for a project meeting in Germany, brought with them an atmosphere of anxiety and happiness, at the same time.
The class had a certain and unique way of expressing hard work. Everybody knew what was going on but no one knew how to handle it or to make something to change that atmosphere. The classes had simply run out, the final changes were done and everyone was waiting for the big moment…the big presentation with the theme of IMMIGRATION!
In the first day of travelling the emotions were forgotten. The team already forgot their moments of hard work and suspense and kept on with having new feelings, taking in everything at a glance, tasting everything what they’ve got.
The following days were full of new events, new persons, new mentalities, a new country, a new culture, everything was new. The team finally had what they deserved, having the chance to taste a whole new world, a little part of paradise: work, results, sight-seeing tour, debates, films about each others culture, trips, museums, new experiences, new people, words that for some of us can represent the real heaven.
After these four days spent in the most wonderful way, the representatives of Romania came back with a lot of energy, enthusiasm and a big smile on their faces. They were anxious to describe, to share their unique experience and finally our class atmosphere was one of the best, described through happiness, trough wishing more, energy, trough the brightness from their eyes.
This is the result of achieving as much as you can!

An Unforgettable Experience
(Project Meeting in Germany)

End of November. To everybody’s surprise, it was a sunny day. Seven o'clock in the morning and I was up. I was running around the house without a point, hoping that the emotions that overwhelmed me would pass. Just at the same time my mother was leaving for work. She tried to say goodbye to me, smiling, but I saw tears in her eyes. Like any other parent she was worried. All morning I tried to mask my tears. I was happy that I was the one chosen to live this experience but in the same time I was upset because I was not used to go away from home such a long time and especially so far from my family.
Time was flying and we realized that it was time to go. I took the luggage and went to the meeting place. When everyone arrived the emotions began to grow knowing that it was the time to leave. It was around three and we had to get into the mini bus. I said goodbye to my family, and when I saw tears in my father’s eyes I felt like I was about to burst into tears. However I managed to control myself and I smiled to reassure and give them the feeling that I would be fine. In the car my thoughts where confused. I put my headphones in my ears and I thought nothing bad was going to happen.
By the time we arrived in Cluj I already felt more comfortable. We found the hotel in which we had reservations. The night settled over the city so everyone got in their rooms and we took a rest for the next day. The night passed peacefully. Alas , we had to wake up at four in the morning in order to catch the plane. We, four students and two teachers, were waiting in the lobby, sleepy and anxious. The clock in the reception hall showed five o’clock .Everybody wondered where our form teacher was. One of the teachers called her up, and when we heard that she had fallen asleep we panicked. We were not sleepy any longer, but we were worried that we would miss the flight. Luckily she managed to get downstairs in time. The taxis which were supposed to take us to the airport arrived. We found out that if we had been 10 minutes later we would have lost the plane. When I heard that, I felt relieved but at the same time I got nervous knowing how close we were to miss the flight.
For me everything was new because it was my first travel by plane. I felt my heart beating faster. As we approached the plane I could hear the noise made by the engine. We took our seats and we put on the safety belts. At every noise I felt that my heart would stop. When the plane started to move my legs started shaking. In the same time the flight attendants explained us what we should do in case of danger. When the pilot began to accelerate I was very nervous and I could barely speak. After the plane took off I had a wonderful feeling. To my surprise I enjoyed it. It is a unique and pleasant sensation. The flight was pleasant, even better than expected. The landing was ok. I would have liked to see the landscape but in the morning it was cold and foggy, so we couldn’t see anything.
Once in Germany, it is true a little bit tired, we were anxious to visit new places and meet new people. We got the luggage and … our adventure began. We took the bus to the central train station in Dortmund. We bought the tickets and went to the platform where the train was to arrive. On the platform there was a large clock that showed that there were a few minutes left before the arrival of the train. We were waiting, very excited, thinking about how the meeting with the students from Germany would be . Near the watch there was a great panel that indicated any changes. Unfortunately it was in German. Of course, the unexpected took us by surprise. But for a nice lady who told us to change the platform, we would have certainly missed the train. We rushed to the other platform and managed to catch the train. Wow! What a rush! Once in the train we sat down and breathed relieved. While I arranged my luggage to sit comfortably I saw out of the window as the train moved , but I was confused because I couldn’t feel and hear anything . I turned to Roxana, my friend, :” The train is moving, isn’t it?”, and she responded smiling at me :”Of course it’s moving!”. I was surprised because it was so silent; I couldn’t realize that the train was moving. And beside that it was also very clean and fast. It was a pleasure to travel by train and, without even realizing, we arrived in Hanover. We got off the train and I was nervous looking forward to meeting Sarah .They were already waiting for us. I recognized her immediately, because I saw her in Romania.
At first I was a little shy, but Sarah did everything possible to make me feel better. We took the train to get to her home because she lives in Seelze .I did not feel very comfortable, because everything was new for me, I was confused. After ten minutes of travelling by train we arrived at her home where I met her mother. I liked the house very much because it was a friendly one, and it was very nicely decorated for Christmas. I met her mother who is a nice woman. She expected us with food and she made me feel very good. I was tired but willing to visit the city. We went for a walk in the evening discovering the city. Everywhere we went I could feel the magic of Christmas. The whole town was dressed for celebration.
After visiting the city, and meeting new people, now it was time to show what we had prepared for the project.
On Wednesday morning we went to school and we were welcome by the headmaster. After that the school band performed for the teams coming from 5 European countries . The first break came just on time. We had the opportunity to meet other students to share our impressions so far. Then it was our time to present what we worked. I was so nervous because I had never talked in front of an audience. To my relief everything went ok and everyone liked our video presentation. Then the Polish and the Italians came.
It time to go to classes and I was impressed by what I saw. They have a 90 minutes class and the break is 20 minutes. When someone delivers a presentation , instead of applauding they knock the desk several times. I felt very good at their classes and I noticed that they insisted more in interaction and communication and not in writing. After this experience we went to the cafeteria and we ate the meal at school. It was very good the food, but I was surprised to see that for dessert we received ice-cream in the middle of winter. There everyone ate ice-cream.
After the meal we went to visit Hanover with Mr. Albrecht and Mr. Winkler, a wonderful opportunity to visit and find out about the history of the most important buildings and places in Hanover.
In the evening we went out, in town, and visited new shops. At night the city is so beautiful.
On Thursday morning Franziska Woellert introduced us to the topic of immigrants’ integration in Germany. It was very interesting because she explained very well the process of integration and we understood everything. We discussed, we asked questions. The break was a well deserved one for all of us because it is difficult to stay concentrated such a long time.
Then there followed the most interesting experience, the activity that I liked best. We formed five international groups and each of us interviewed an immigrant. I was in the team led by the Italian teacher. We interviewed José Carrascosa. It was interesting to listen to his life story because I think it could represent an example of strength, for all of us. He always wanted to be accepted in the German community and he always tried to improve his skills. The interviews we had taken in our school, had also been very interesting. We found out about the difficulties that the persons who leave their native country are being faced with. It is not easy to live abroad. After the interview we returned in the Forum to present the results. It was the day that impressed me most .
In the evening I went with Sarah’s family to the restaurant, a traditional Greek one . I felt very good as her parents are wonderful people and I will never forget that night. We talked for almost three hours and while walking trough the city the atmosphere made me feel in the world of magic. I felt part of their family and that was something that I hadn’t expected at all.
On Friday morning we edited the results of the interview. We went to the forum and watched the German-Turkish film presentation. It was a very beautiful film. The Turkish teacher had lived his childhood in Germany and last summer, together with the German teacher, went to visit his birth place. It was really exciting to see that some neighbours still remembered him and he remembered the exact place were he had fallen down with his bike. The funniest moment was that he had a picture of his first school day and took one exactly the same, but after 20 years. We enjoyed the film as well as the discussion with the students, teachers and parents on the topic of “Turkish immigration to Germany and integration”.
That day was a special one because it was Sarah’s birthday. Considering that it was my last day in Hanover she took me to some shops to buy some gifts. In the afternoon some friends of hers came at her home and brought cakes. I had asked Saskia to buy for me some flowers to offer Sarah. When Saskia arrived with Roxana and brought the flowers Sarah was taken by surprise. I guess she hadn’t expected that from me. It was a special evening and we went out , drank cocktails and talked. We had fun.
On Saturday morning I was sad because I knew it was my last day in Sarah’s family. Unfortunately Sarah felt very badly and she was not able to come with us for the sightseeing tour. Her parents saw me to the school and we all felt sad because that wonderful week was getting over.
We went to Hamburg and visited the Museum of Emigration “BallinStadt” which turned into a very impressing experience. The stories of the millions of people forced to emigrate to America touched our souls.
Hamburg is a gorgeous city and I would have liked to stay more but we were supposed to go back to Hanover and take the bus back to Dortmund.
This time we were aware that changes might appear. We managed again and we arrived safety in Dortmund and had a nice sleep in a hotel next to the airport.
I can’t express in words what I felt returning back home. When we landed on the airport in Cluj I felt safe and to being able to speak in my language made me appreciate more my country and my family as well.
It was a good experience for my life. I improved my English. Now I am able to speak in front of an audience and I am able to appreciate the people around me better.

It was a cold day of November. Everyone was in a hurry. The teachers and the students were preparing for the departure to Germany. Luggage, the last details, emotions of those who had their first flight and their first visit abroad, tears in the parents eyes, worried for their children, all of these things were present.
Once in Germany, they had to travel by train from Dortmund to Hannover, which represented another surprise for them. The train was different than the trains from Romania. Was faster ,cleaner and more silent.
Once in Hannover, there took place the meeting with the German hosts, with the city, the visit of the school, meeting the other teams, and so on. After visiting the school, the school orchestra offered them a show.
They found out that the classes last 90`,and the breaks were different than ours. Then the students’ parents from Germany, offered the guests a delicious meal in school, made and served by them.
Then, they had the opportunity to go shopping, to see the wonderful Christmas Fair, to have a sightseeing tour that gave them the possibility to visit museums and cultural places in Hannover.
Well, on the 2nd day in school, there took place a meeting with 5 immigrants, interviewing them, a team work activity, the presentations in front of an audience.
The 3rd day was beautiful too. It took place another meeting with 3 immigrants of Turkish origin: a journalist, a teacher and a businessman(former football player).Then, it was presented a film, that showed them the experience of a Turkish family, who had to go back to Turkey, fearing the racist manifestation of some German groups.
The last day, the 4th day was the day with the trip to Hamburg and the visit of BallinStadt(The Museum of Immigration).
In that project, the students had the possibility to practice their English skills, to meet other people, to share with them feelings and opinions, to work in teams, to see very many beautiful places, and so on.
When the students came back, they felt sad because they separated from their new friends, and all the beautiful things they had seen, but on the other hand , they were happy because of the experience they had there.

It happened two months ago. It was a cold, rainy day. The anxiety of the long moments of tune were pushing my thoughts hardly, almost compressing them.
I was looking forward for the feedbacks of my colleagues who had had an excellent opportunity the take part in a project reunion in Hannover, Germany.
It was like after a whole week I could still hear their scared, trembling and excited voices before leaving... “ Oh, I can’t wait!” “ I’m so nervous” “ I hope we will have fun” “ I’m afraid not to disappoint someone” these were only some of their thoughts I was remembering that day on my way to school.
I finally arrived at school like a robot, feeling deeply lost in my thoughts and making every step mechanically.
Arriving up in our class room I was shocked to see it empty , I didn’t know what was to follow... I got a little bit embarrassed for arriving that early but curiosity took over me and I had to rush to find out everything about the wonderful trip. What I didn’t know was that I didn’t get too early, instead our teacher had prepared us a surprise in the library.
I was waiting and waiting, but nobody came. After 10 minutes my teacher came and asked what am I doing there. Everybody was in the library waiting to start their story and to watch all of the photos taken.
Now that was a surprise! None of us knew that our teacher would also show us pictures during our colleagues explained us their experience.
The photos were lovely and hearing our colleagues was like being there.
Watching and hearing everything almost made me feel bad for having let such an opportunity slip through my hands... but I also was glad for them. Lucky them!
At the end of our class I felt very well hearing such amazing stories and seeing so eye-catching pictures. It was great for me ... imagine what it might have been for the ones involved...

It's seven in the morning and she is rushing towards school because today something amazing is about to happen. The weather is a bit cold but the sweet sun lights manage to wrap her up with their warmth. Roxy needs to hurry up because she might miss the bus and then all her efforts would be wasted.
Last week she was stunned to find out that she was one of those four lucky people who were picked to take part in this very important project. She worked really hard to gather information about different things, she had to interview a few persons then to take some photos of the surroundings, she barely even managed to sleep and today all this hard work will be finally paid off.
She was able to arrive in time and changed a few words with her classmates and went to take a seat in the bus and there they go to Cluj. After several stops the bus arrived in front of the hotel in Cluj, they all said "Good Night" and went to their rooms.
Arriving in her room Roxy was glad to rest a little but before that she still had to go once again through the schedule. Before she could even notice she fell asleep.
Something was surely going on in the hallway, she felt that people were agitated but before she could open her eyes someone was already knocking blatant at her door. In just an instant Roxy got out of the bed and when she looked at her watch she realized that she forgot to set up the alarm clock and overslept. Roxy rushed to the bathroom and splashed a little water on her face, then hastily put on some clothes, grabbed her luggage and galloped down the stairs until she arrived in the hotel lobby. Luckily the others were waiting for her and arrived at the airport just a few minutes before the plane took off. Roxy took a seat in the airplane and made herself comfortable. As the plane took off she sank a little in the plush seat and cold chills rushed down her spine, she took a deep breath and calmed down, after all it was her first time travelling with the plane.
In matter of hours they all arrived in Germany and at the airport they met up with the teachers and their hostess'. Roxy was surprised to see that the town, Hanover, was already prepared to receive Santa Claus. The city lights were mesmerizing and worth everything, she thought.

During the next few days they were all really preoccupied with the project, they talked about immigration, what kind of problems one can come across when going to another country, they visited museums, and they made new friends. In the blink of an eye the week was already over and they had to return home. While saying "Good Bye" "See you next time" Roxy noticed that her hostess Saskia had tears in her eyes. She managed to stay calm until she got on the plane. Melancholy started to cover her up. On her way back she remembered all the fun she had during the trip and she thought that it was worth all her efforts. She woke up in a daze and when she saw the album she got as a present from Saskia , Roxy sighted in relief that this experience was not just a dream.

I'm Manuela Grigoruta and today I attended the English Olimpycs, the school phase.
I want to share with you some thoughts.
It was a pleasant experience because I practiced my English in writing, reading comprehension and grammar.
It was an exam atmosphere and I liked very much the essay topic.
I think such topics should be proposed or presented to those who are in power in our country, because giving a helping hand is a necessity.
I admit that I thought some exercices were a little bit difficult. That's why even if I had progressed lately I realized that I have to study at English harder.
It was a pleasure to give up other activities and to participate in this one.

Proiectele Colegiului National Mihai Eminescu, Baia Mare

Colegiul National Mihai Eminescu din Baia Mare, director prof. Marius Craciun, ramane in topul liceelor din Maramures in ceea ce priveste proiectele educationale internationale.

Dupa finalizarea cu succes a proiectului Comenius « O calitate mai buna in educatie cu sprijinul familiei » finalizat cu o conferinta internationala la standarde europene, anul acesta continua activitatile din cadrul proiectului Comenius « Imigrantii, trecut si prezent, Spre o mai buna integrare ? » ( coordonator proiect Mariana Hudrea).
Volumul conferintei este publicat si in format electronic.
Ramona Osan a finalizat si site-ul proiectului dedicat imigratiei Immigrants Past and Present.

Elevul Ionut Sleam lucreaza la filmul Conferintei din mai, care va fi prezentat in cadrul reuniunii de proiect din Seelze, Germania din 1-6 decembrie.

Tot pentru aceasta reuniune elevii Florina Fanea, Petruta Boga, Roxana Serba si Paul Craciun pregatesc un film in care vor fi prezentate mai multe interviuri luate persoanelor din alte tari care au luat decizia sa traiasca in Romania, pentru a vedea modul in care s-au integrat in societatea romaneasca.

Vestea buna pentru acest nou an scolar este obtinerea finantarii pentru un nou proiect Comenius « Conflicting Past – Common Future. A Practical Survival Guide for Young European Citizens” – Trecut conflictual. Ghid practic de supravietuire pentru tinerii cetateni europeni”, proiect coordonat de profesoara Elena Iercosan.

Cele noua institutii partenere ale Colegiului Eminescu in acest proiect sunt:

In perioada 21 -27 octombrie patru elevi si doua cadre didactice au reprezentat Romania la reuniunea de proiect din Sobkow, Polonia. Acestia au fost: Diana Onea si Sorina Tarbă din clasa a IX-a C , Renata Petz si Alin Manu din clasa a X-a G insotiti de prof. Elena Iercosan, coordonator proiect si prof. Luminit Faur .

Toate reuniunile internationale au o dimensiune complexa atat din punct de vedere emotional cat si sub aspectul stiintific si cultural.

Prin participarea la activitatile proiectelor , finalizate de multe ori in cadrul acestor intalniri , elevii au posinilitatea de a-si dezvolta toate cele opt competente cheie promovate de Uniunea Europeana ( comunicarea in limba materna, comunicarea intr-o limba straina, competente stiintifice, competente culturale, competente civice si interrelationale, competente digitale, a invata sa inveti, competente antreprenoriale).

De aici si sprijinul permanent acordat de conducerea liceului, director Marius Craciun si director adjunct Mirela Ardelean, fata de promovarea acestor proiecte in cadrul Colegiului National Mihai Eminescu.

Iata cateva din gandurile celor patru elevi prezenti la reuniunea de proiect din Polonia care au avut prilejul sa viziteze: Traseul ecologist din Sobkow,Orașul Kielce, Cracovia, Muzeul Auschwitz – Birkenau, Jedrzejow

Prin porţi deschise

Vestea plecării noastre în Polonia a fost cheia ce ne-a deschis porţile spre noi orizonturi, experienţe de neuitat alături de noi prieteni şi cunoştinţe uimitoare.
Nu ne aşteptam ca noi să fim cei patru privilegiaţi care vor reprezenta liceul, Colegiul Naţional “Mihai Eminescu” într-o nouă societate, total diferită de a noastră. Brusc, ne-am simţit foarte importanţi, iar sufletele ne-au fost inundate de sentimente copleşitoare, emoţiile alăturându-se curând: se anunţa primul nostru zbor şi un drum lung, obositor spre destinaţie.
Odata ajunşi in Polonia am fost plăcut surprinşi de tot ce ne înconjura. Cultura şi obiceurile lor erau diferite de ale noastre deşi puteam găsi unele asemănări.În fiecare zi făceam lucruri noi , nici o zi nu era una monotonă, de aceea stilul lor de viaţă ni s-a părut foarte interesant, fiind unul activ.Chiar dacă eram nişte străini pentru ei, oamenii au fost foarte primitori şi deschişi, făcându-ne să ne simţim ca şi acasă.Ospitalitatea şi bunăstarea sunt caracteristici care îi reprezintă.
Încă din prima zi am avut parte de o mulţime de activităţi captivante,timpul trecând foarte repede.Una dintre acestea a fost vizitarea şcolii lor, care deşi este una dintr-o zonă rurală, era modernă, avand numeroase facilitaţi. Am asistat la diverse ore de curs, având posibilitatea de a ne prezenta şcolile şi tăirile, aflând foarte multe lucruri despre miturile, obiceiurile,muzica populară poloneză.
Scopul proiectului nostru, Conflicting Past- Common Future, era analizarea întâmplărilor istorice din timpul celui de Al Doilea Razboi Mondial, prin acesta având şansa de a vizita renumitul Auschwitz. Înainte, la şcoală, ne-am prezentat fiecare proiectul despre Holocaustul din cele două ţări, iar noile cunoştinţe despre exterminarea evreilor din lagarele din Polonia ne-au impresionat. Totuşi cea mai marcantă experienţa rămâne vizitarea Lagărului de Concentrare şi Exterminare Auschwitz-Birkenau, unde, am văzut în ce condiţii trăiau şi munceau everii şi alte minorităţi care au fost captive în interiorul acestuia, fiindu-ne prezentate „intstrumentele” şi metodele de exterminare.
Tot în decursul celor 6 zile pe care le-am petrecut în compania colegilor din Polonia, am vizitat oraşul Cracovia şi Palatul Regal din acesta,ne-am plimbat printre clădiri impresionante, cu o arhitetură uluitoare, având parte de privelişti de-o frumusţe rară.
Un alt oraş pe care l-am vizitat a fost Kielce, unde ne-am plimbat pe strada Sienkiewicz care ne-a oferit posibilitatea de a vedea frumoasa si rara arhitectură a clădirilor care mărgineau strada, până în faţa Bisericii Evanghelice, una dintre cele mai frumoase monumente de arhitectură din oraş.Tot aici, ne-a fost prezentată Piaţa artiştilor, unde am admirat originalitatea ideii cu un joc de peste 20 de statui, de circa 2 metri, ce reprezentau soldaţi.
Există fapte, lucruri şi oameni, care nu se uită, deşi uitarea este o lege a firii, dar noi cu siguranţă nu vom uita tot ceea ce am trăit în Polonia. Cunoştiinţele pe care le-am acumulat pe întreaga durată a şederii noastre în această ţară constituie un lucru foarte important, care ne face să ne simţim de-a dreptul norocoşi că am avut această imensă oportunitate.

Glosse de călătorie cu valenţe... pedagogice!

De curând, m-am reîntors din Franţa, unde, vreme de 7 zile, am participat la o reuniune de proiect internaţional pe tema migraţiei, laolaltă cu reprezentanţi (elevi şi profesori) din şase ţări. Acesta este pretextul acestor... glosse.
Întrebat fiind de către prieteni, elevi şi colegi, ce impresie mi-a lăsat Franţa, am răspuns că, aşa cum am văzut-o eu, Franţa e o ţară încântătoare, în planul culturii şi civilizaţiei, şi surprinzătoare, în planul civilităţii, adică al comportamentului civilizat. Intenţionat, las la o parte impresiile ce vizează primul plan, consemnând impresiile mele cu privire la atitudinea şi comportamentul oamenilor pe care i-am întâlnit. Or, pe acest palier, pornind de la propriile observaţii, constatările făcute sunt surprinzător de favorabile francezilor. Observând comportamentul omului obişnuit în diferite situaţii de viaţă (la şcoală, pe stradă, în autobuz, în tren, în restaurant, în muzee, magazine ori în familie), am conştientizat discrepanţele uriaşe dintre noi şi ei în planul civilităţii, al atitudinii, al comportamentului civilizat. Civilitatea cetăţeanului, peste tot în lume, ar trebui să se afle pe acelaşi nivel cu cel atins de civilizaţia căreia aparţine. Însă civilitatea (comportamentul civilizat) nu este produsul sau reflexul civilizaţiei. Dimpotrivă, cred eu, civilizaţia este produsul şi oglinda civilităţii, iar civilitatea este produsul educaţiei. Aşadar, în opinia mea, nivelul şi calitatea unei civilizaţii sunt determinate de nivelul şi calitatea educaţiei acelui popor care a plămădit acea civilizaţie. Ori, şi din acest punct de vedere, al calităţii educaţiei în familie, în şcoală, nu sunt deloc avantajaţi în această comparaţie. De la elevii mei, găzduiţi de colegii lor francezi, am aflat un lucru ce poate fi considerat uimitor, pentru mulţi dintre noi. El se referă la faptul că, încă de mici, copiii învaţă, în familie, respectul faţă de reguli, norme şi legi. Ei ştiu că, odată fixate, regulile nu se negociază, ele se respectă, se aplică, şi atât. Dacă în familie se stabileşte un lucru, spre exemplu: culcatul copiilor la ora 21.00, indiferent de vârsta lor, atunci acest lucru se aplică fără niciun comentariu. Nu se negociază, nu se amână, ci se pune în aplicare, adică se respectă regula. Acest fapt, trăit de către elevii mei, ar contraria şi ar revolta pe mulţi dintre copiii noştri, cum s-a întâmplat de altfel cu ei, care mi s-au plâns, considerându-l absurd, întrucât sunt obişnuiţi (pentru că le-a fost permis de către părinţi) să se culce când vor şi nu când trebuie sau se cuvine. Pornind de la acest exemplu mărunt, se poate afirma că dacă un tânăr este educat din familie, adică în spaţiul privat, să respecte regulile ce rânduiesc acest spaţiu, dacă îşi va forma deprinderea de a respecta norma stabilită, atunci, cu siguranţă, şi în spaţiul public se va comporta la fel, adică va respecta normele şi legile. Dimpotrivă, dacă în spaţiul privat domneşte arbitrariul, dacă în familie nu există şi nu se cultivă respectul faţă de regulă, ori, Doamne fereşte, dacă cel care fixează regulile este copilul, iar nu părinţii, care acceptă ori tolerează asemenea stări de lucruri, atunci un asemenea tip de atitudine şi de antieducaţie nu poate genera decât comportamente egoiste, arbitrare, anarhice şi după bunul plac, lipsite de responsabilitate. Iar acolo unde domneşte bunul plac se instaurează anarhia socială, însă unde domneşte norma, legea, care sunt respectate, acolo se instaurează ordinea socială. Pornind de la asemenea premise şi, totodată, constatări, susţin că, pe acest plan - al comportamentului social pe toate palierele - diferenţa dintre Franţa şi România este similară cu diferenţa dintre democraţie şi anarhie. Afirmaţia recentă poate fi susţinută şi pe baza altor constatări, cu valoare argumentativă:1. În fiecare dimineaţă, fără îmbrânceli, îmbulzeală, hărmălaie ori înjurături, cum se întâmplă frecvent la noi, ci cu răbdare, în linişte şi ordine elevii urcau în autobuzele ce-i transportau la şcoală. Apoi, în autobuze, deşi uneori erau aglomerate, nu tu voficerări, hărmălaie sau îmbrânceli. 2. Lucrul cel mai surprinzător pentru mine, obişnuit pentru ei, se întâmpla zilnic între orele 12.00-14.00, când elevii liceului luau masa de prânz la cantina şcolii. Pe un hol imens, într-un spaţiu marcat, aşteptau în ordine şi linişte, vorbind în şoaptă, cam tot timpul între aceste ore, să le vină rândul să intre în sala de mese, cam 500/ 600 de elevi. Nu tu agitaţie, nu tu îmbrânceli şi, mai ales, nu tu supraveghetori. A fost singurul fapt surprinzător, pentru mine, ca dascăl. O asemenea scenă, cu toată experienţa profesională, destul de mare (de 17 ani) pentru mine, cel puţin, este de neimaginat în liceele din România. Ea ar fi posibilă numai dacă aceşti elevi ar fi flancaţi de tot atâţia poliţişti ori dascăli!Acest fapt evocat reflectă, încă o dată, cu claritate, faptul că, nu numai din şcoală, ci încă din familie, copiii francezi sunt educaţi, obişnuiţi cu ordinea şi disciplina, învăţând, aşa cum am arătat mai devreme, să respecte regulile şi normele sociale, să dea dovadă de civilitate, calitate definitorie a comportamentului democratic...

Reuniune de proiect in Franta

In perioada 10 -16 noiembrie 2008, la Chambery, Franta, se vor intalni pentru prima reuniune in cadrul proiectului Comenius “Imigrantii: trecut si prezent. Spre o mai buna integrare?”, reprezentantii celor 6 scoli partenere din Franta, Germani, Italia, Romania, Polonia si Turcia. Scopul principal al proiectului este de a studia fenomenul emigratiei de-a lungul secolelor, pentru a intelege mai bine ce se intampla astazi. Fenomenul se va studia nu numai din punct de vedere istoric, politic si sociologic ci si din punct de vedere literar si artistic
Colegiul National Mihai Eminescu din Baia Mare, director prof. Marius Craciun, va fi reprezentat de doi elevi, Adrian Andreica, XI E si Marius Anitas, X C si trei cadre didactice. Cei doi elevi, indrumati de prof. Mariana Hudrea, coordonatoarea proiectului si profesorii de istorie si sociologie, Teodor Marton si Ioan Tiplea, au realizat pentru aceasta reuniune o foarte frumoasa prezentare a Romaniei precum si o statistica care va fi prezentata partenerilor. Astfel ei au constatat ca peste 22 % din elevii colegiului sunt afectati direct de fenomenul emigratiei ( 25 elevi au fost plecati in strainatate dar s-au intors, parintii a 31 elevi sunt in strinatate, 54 elevi au un parinte care lucreaza in strainatate, parintii a 30 elevi au fost plecati dar s-au intors iar 33 dintre elevi au frati sau surori in strainatate).

Fenomenul este insa mult mai complex in alte scoli , in care numarul parintilor plecati este mult mai mare. ( vezi studiile efectuate in ultimii ani). Din discutiile/ dezbaterile purtate cu elevii precum si din observarea fenomenului de catre profesori si diriginti, se constata ca problemele depasesc , de multe ori, capacitatea scolii de a le face fata. In cazul familiilor care ajung la divort, de exemplu, elevii ajung uneori sa neglijeze sau chiar sa nu mai frecventeze scoala.

Un numar mare de profesori de la Colegiul Eminescu de la disciplinele istorie, sociologie, geografie, limbi straine, limba romana, limba latina, arte, au inceput deja sa puna accent pe aeasta tema in predarea la clasa si sa realizeze materiale menite sa-i faca pe elevi sa inteleaga complexitatea fenomenului si impactul in viata reala

In Franta se vor stabili si temele care vor fi prezentate in cadrul Conferintei Internationale din 28-31 mai 2009 , din Baia Mare, conferinta la care vor participa reprezentantii institutiilor din 10 tari europene implicate in proiecte ale educatiei pe tot parcursul vietii. Conferinta, Editia a II-a , va fi dedicata tot Competentelor cheie . Daca in cadrul primei conferinte organizate in mai 2007 accentul s-a pus pe competentele de baza (comunicare in limba materna, comunicare in limbi straine, competente digitale si competente de baza in matematica si tehnologie), de data aceasta accentul se va pune pe competentele transversale (competenta de a invata sa inveti, spirit antreprenorial, competente interpersonale si competente de expresie culturala). Astfel va fi prezentat si el de-al doilea proiect Comenius al Colegiului Eminescu ” Pentru o mai buna calitate in educatie cu sprijinul familiei”, precum si proiectul Grundtvig “Rolul antreprenoriatului in viata femeilor” derulat de Info Project. Conferinta va reuni specialisti in domeniile mai sus mentionate, cadre didactice, elevi si parinti.

Punctul de plecare al proiectului nostru consta in faptul ca toate tarile participante ( Franta, Germania, Italia, Polonia, Romania si Turcia) trec prin experienta emigratiei. Unele tari au trait experienta plecarii persoanelor din tara lor , altele a sosirii emigrantilor in tarile lor. Scopul proiectului nostru este de a studia fenomenul , si prin punerea elevilor nostri in contact direct cu o parte dintre actori , sa-i facem sa inteleaga mai bine realitatea si sa-i ajutam sa decida daca ne indreptam spre o integrare intr-un sens mai larg.
In prima faza fiecare scoala va aduna date statistice si informatii referitoare la proprii cetateni care au plecat in strainatate, la fel ca si despre cetatenii care s-au stabilit in tarile lor.

Se vor realiza grafice si texte explicative referitoare la schimbarile aparute.

Vom examina masurile luate de catre guvernele tarilor noastre pentru a controla emigratia si pentru asigurarea integrarii cu succes a celor deja stabiliti in tarile respective.

Vom elabora chestionare pentru a afla cum sunt vazuti emigrantii de catre populatia din fiercare tara.

Elevii vor utiliza aceste chestionare pentru a intervieva parintii si colegii de clasa, se vor trage concluzii si se vor face comparatii.
Fiecare elev participant la proiect va avea sarcina de a sta de vorba cu un emigrant pe care il va intervieva.

Aceste marturii vor fi traduse in limba eng leza si cele mai inetresante vor fi incluse in website-ul proiectului.
Pe parcursul reuniunilor Comenius emigrantii vor fi invitati in scoli si elevii vor dialoga cu ei.

Halloween Storytelling 2008

Vi s-a întâmplat să vă adunaţi cu prietenii sau familia in jurul unui foc, spunând poveşti de groază? Mie nu, dar azi, în sala festivă a Colegiului Naţional “Mihai Eminescu” s-a întâmplat ceva asemănător, doar ca nu a fost vorba de nici un foc.
La ceas de seară a început spectacolul liceului, publicul a fost încântat, amuzat, înfricoşat şi nu în ultimul rând fermecat de poveştile de groază scrise, regizate şi interpretate de elevii claselor a IX-a E (Bilingv Germană), a IX-a F (Bilingv Engleză), a X-a C şi F (Bilingv Engleză), a X-a D (Bilingv Franceză)
Douasprezece grupe au jucat, fiecare in parte, câte o scenetă legată de Halloween, în faţa tuturor claselor de a IX-a şi a X-a bilingv şi a majorităţii profesorilor, fiecare scenetă fiind total unică şi deosebită faţă de cealaltă. Binenţeles, originalitatea le-a fost în final răsplătită cu aplauzele bine-meritate, diplome şi câte ceva de-ale gurii, pentru că debutanţii au fost lihniţi de foame la final.
Desigur, scenetele nu au fost singurul eveniment (deşi a fost cea mai importantă parte a zilei), după-amiaza începând cu o vizită a câtorva mici actori doritori să explice mulţimii de profesori răbdători originile acestei sărbători…să zicem…extravagante. Programul, sub motto-ul Trick or Treat, a fost deschis la ora 13.50 cu prezentări susţinute în limba engleză şi limba română despre semnificaţia sărbătorii de Halloween, Halloween în Irlanda (ţara de origine a sărbătorii), Anglia şi Statele Unite ale Americii. Spectatorii au aflat şi legenda lui Jack O’Lantern şi semnificaţia bostanului de Halloween. Prezentările au fost susţinute de către elevi ai claselor bilingv-engleză 10 C (Bianca Iuhasz, Bianca Papp, Raluca Creţ, Andreea Pop) şi 10 F (Cristina Barbuş, Ştefana Şopco, Ionuţ Dragoş, Alexandru Sas).
Tot atunci s-a realizat şi vernisajul expoziţiilor „Măştile în căutarea feţelor” şi „Jack O’Lantern”. Profesorii şi elevii au avut ocazia de a vota dovleacul cel mai reuşit, iar sarcina lor nu a fost uşoară

Elevii au fost extrem de încântaţi, emoţiile iminente au fost surmontate, iar spectacolul a fost de un real succes.
„Pentru mine a fost o experienţă unică şi nouă, deoarece nu am mai lucrat la acest gen de proiect, nu am mai jucat teatru dar mi sa părut o experienţă deosebita şi aş vrea să o repet oricând. A fost special deoarce m-a apropiat de unii colegi şi a fost amuzană idea cu sceneta in engleză (inclusiv repetiţii şi indicaţii)...În încheiere vreau să spun că mi-a plăcut foarte, foarte mult...şi ..a fost super!” mărturisea Teodora Balc, clasa a 10-a F.

„Ce pot sã zic? În primul rând , mulţumim doamnelor profesoare cã ne-au încurajat şi ne-au susţinut, mulţumim domnilor profesori care ne-au învoit de la ore pentru repetiţii , evenimentul a fost bine organizat, publicul a aplaudat mult, multe dintre scenete au fost reuşite şi mai vrem sã facem astfel de activităţi. Sperãm ca la anu’ sã fie implicate cât mai multe clase şi de ce nu, sã joace şi unii profesori roluri in scenetele noastre.” (Ionuţ Dragoş 10 F)

„După părerea mea, săptămânile de repetiţii şi organizări au dat din plin roade şi sunt foarte mândru că am avut ocazia să particip la un astfel de eveniment alături de cele doua grupe ale clasei X F, cu îndrumarea doamnei profesoare Flavia Costin şi Elena Mihali.” (Alexandru Sas X F)

„Mă bucur foarte mult că am avut ocazia de a demonstra colegilor şi profesorilor talentul elevilor de la acest liceu. Am avut emoţii dar a fost extraordinar! Abia aştept să mai avem asemenea ocazii. Mulţumim şi doamnelor profesoare care ne-au ajutat.” (Bianca Iuhasz X C)

Toate cele 12 poveşti au fost premiate cu diplome, bineinţeles cu titluri înfricoşatoare, dar şi amuzante; The Spookiest Story, The Most Creepy Story, The Darkest Story, The Most Chilling Story, The Most Thrilling Story, The Freekiest Story etc.

Manifestările au fost îndrumate de Catedra de Limba Engleză şi Catedra de Arte, profesorii coordonatori fiind d-na profesoară Elena Mihali, d-na profesoară Flavia Costin, d-na profesoara Simona Dicu (limba engleză) şi d-nul profesor Lucian Pop (Artă plastică).

O zi la Biblioteca Judeteana "Petre Dulfu", Baia Mare

Se spune ca omul cat traieste, invata. Orice informatie in plus, oricat ar fi ea de mica, ne imbogateste cunostintele despre lumea ce ne inconjoara.
Eu, in ziua in care am vizitat Biblioteca Judeteana, dupa un tur amanuntit am iesit un om nou. Eram tot eu in aparenta, dar am realizat la nivelul subconstientului ca am acumulat noi cunostinte care vor ajuta in continua dezvoltare a personalitatii mele. Aceasta pentru mine a fost o adevarata experienta din care am iesit mai bogata.
Am intrat in Biblioteca Judeteana de nenumarate ori, chiar mai mult, trec pe langa ea zilnic in drumul meu spre scoala. Nici prin gand nu mi-a trecut, pana in acea zi, ca aceasta cladire ascunde atatea frumuseti. Ma refer si la grandoarea in sine a cladirii, dar si la ce cuprinde ea in interior. Camere ce ascund absolut toate cunostintele lumii, de la inceput si pana in prezent, mistere despre oameni, locuri si evenimente care asteapta ca cei interesati sa le descopere.
Ma bucura faptul ca in cadrul bibliotecii se petrec foarte frecvent evenimente deosebite care marcheaza anumite zile, si noi, prin acestea, avem sansa de a evada din cotidian si de a ne bucura din plin de acestea.
Din prima clipa am simtit caldura si amabilitatea cu care am fost intampinati, m-au bucurat zambetele cu care am fost condusi si pot spune cu tot sufletul ca aici am petrecut un timp de mare calitate.
Din nou am descoperit ca lucrurile ce sunt aproape de noi si par banale se pot transforma in adevarate lectii de viata.
Sunt fericita ca aceasta lectie am trait-o alaturi de persoane dragi mie, precum colegii si doua stimate doamne profesoare.
Aceasta a fost o experienta placuta si utila de care imi voi aminti mereu cu mult drag.

Ma simt onorata ca am avut aceasta oportunitate rara de a vizita Biblioteca Judeteana si de a descoperi toate minunatiile ei.

Vizita la biblioteca

Azi clasa noastra a fost la biblioteca...a fost o actiune extraordinar de buna. Cu totii am fost impresionati sa aflam multe lucruri noi despre biblioteca la care cu totii mergem de mici. Eu una am fost placut impresionata sa aflu ca sunt anumite parti ale bibliotecii de care nici macar nu stiam ca exista...de exemplu: sala multimedia, sala cu carti in toate limbile. Nu stiam de asemenea despre sala de inventii sau unde se afla sala cu ziarele.Mi-au placut enorm aceste 2 ore petrecute la biblioteca in care am vizitat-o si am vizionat deasemenea un minunat filmulet despre insula Eliss la sectia Britannica. Sper sa mai fie astfel de activitati alaturi de d-voastra si de alti profesori...Va multumim!!!

Every since I was a little girl I have dreamed about travelling overseas.
Strange lands, exciting places and new cultures have always fascinated me. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to speak another language, to grow up learning different customs or to live in a completely different way than I do now. The main thing about living in Europe is being able to travel all over. Each country has something that can amaze you. And who would have thought that someone’s life could change in just 7 days?
Well, mine did.
This spring my dream came true. I got to travel to Italy within a Comenius project. And suddenly it seemed like the world was at my fingertips.
Italy's green hills, beautiful mountains and city life are unforgettable. We were happy having such a great chance.
We managed to get used to living in Italy for one week, to it's people, culture and customs. We adapted easily to their way of life, especially because those who took part in the project were boys and girls of our age, pupils from France, Italy, Slovakia, Poland, Liechtenstein and of course Romania. We travelled almost all over the Belluno district , we visited Vicenza, Treviso (but unfortunately, just a small part of it), Belluno, Longarone, Venice and other cities and villages, places I’ve probably seen only on the television screen.
What I enjoyed the most was the "Dream Museum" from Feltre (Museo dei sogni e della memoria), the most beautiful museum I’ve seen so far. It's not a usual one, it's something more than that. It has so many stories that can change your life completely , in just 2 or 3 hours, if you just listen what "it has to say". So, if you ever go to Feltre, don't miss it, just take 2 hours of your time and visit it, because it is an incredible place, and visiting Feltre is a very educational and interesting thing.
Another place I enjoyed was Venice. I've always wanted to go there and to see the famous "Lovers' City". It was beautiful; I can't even believe I was there. Travelling on the sea by the "vaporeto" was something I will never forget. We even got in contact with a boy from Napoli , he was very kind and asked us a lot of questions regarding our staying there.
Italy is great, Italians are very friendly , even friendlier with the foreigners, optimistic and the landscapes are awesome. I'm not sure they know how lucky they are. Their cities are very different from ours, I haven't seen there any 10 stores block of flats, all the shops are very well-groomed, thousands of ice-cream stores, and the ice-cream is incredible good and tasty. Italy is not only the pizza, pasta and macaroni's country, the food is really delicious, if you have somebody ready to cook it for you.
After the days spent there I know that I can take on any responsibility, and I’m not afraid of trying new things. This trip gave me the opportunity to experience something I never thought I could. Being in a different country and adapting to its customs is not such a difficult thing, you just have to understand them.
This chance I had made me wish for more and more projects and trips like this one. The project was based on English, and its main topic was crossing borders and it was the best thing that could happen to me because it helped me a lot. It helped me practice my English skills and it made me realize that there is not difference among people coming from different nations, because we all are human beings, with the same feelings and the same dream: a peaceful and united world. I think that the most important thing is to work together, and if we do that we can do wonderful things, like this project.

On the first of January 2007 our country became a EU member and on that day we became too.
The day that we were waiting for came at last and all of us celebrated in his on way. But still as the days past we didn't do anything for Romania. Nobody does anything...our president goes to all kind of meetings on this theme, but he still doesn't do anything for us or for Romania.
That's why I think that if we want a better life for us, for our parents, for our children...for everyone, we have to take attitude.
By being a EU member we have the opportunity to do things that the people from other generations couldn't do.
My message to all the children of our age, or younger, or even older is to learn as much as possible so that together to form the army of children from Romania. We have to make this country a powerful one and not to go away and leave it because we can go to other countries to build a future, this is not the solution because we can have a future here to...together whit our family and our friends.
This is my message as an EU member.

Borderline...the wall that we built between us, the barrier that separates our minds as well as our bodies, the appearances that we must fight against.
This is what we tried to do during our meeting with our colleagues from the project. After spending a wonderful day in which each team presented its work, our school organised a trip that, by taking us back in history helped us better understand the realities that we face today; a trip that showed our integrity as Romanians and our true character as humans.
It was also important due to the fact that we travelled along our border with Ukraine, and this way we had the possibility to observe how the people that live near borders get along and how this situation evolved in time, because our borders are not the same as were years ago.
We first visited what used to be the house of a historical personality from our county, Vasile Lucaciu. Known as “the lion of Sisesti”, he was a famous fighter for the rights of the Romanians from Transylvania. The ensemble that we visited includes: the parochial house, the school and The Church of the Saint Union of All the Romanians. Lucaciu was one of the fearless leaders of the Transylvanian fight for emancipation and he was one of the people who wrote the “Memorandum”, which contained historical arguments, the motives that stood as a base for the Romanians desire: not to annex Transylvania to Hungary.
After this, we had the chance to visit the famous wooden Church from Surdesti. It dates back to 1721 and it is remarkable due to the tower’s impressive dimensions. This church is known as the highest construction of wood from the whole world, the tower measuring 54 m. The beauty of the place is increased by the marvellous interior that has paintings with scenes from the Bible.
The Museum of Ethnography and The Village Museum are important sights for any Romanian. And especially we, the people from Maramures, have a lot to be proud of when we speak about The Village Museum from Sighetu Marmatiei.
At the entrance of this museum we are „welcomed” by the symbol-monument of central Europe, the point where the 0 kilometre is marked.
The Museum is composed of peasant architectural monuments, houses and churches, arranged in a village that reconstitutes the way that these peasants lived and were organized. This place creates such a strong impression of reality, which I confess that I sometimes felt like I have barely got out from a time machine that took me back in time, to those ages.
Of great importance are also the Gates from Maramures, which, for Europe, made a considerable contribution to enriching the cultural treasure of our ancient continent. This Gates separate the sacred space of the house and its surroundings from the outside space, representing the pride of the peasant as an inhabitant of Maramures.
What we visited next is also what impressed me the most: the Memorial from Sighetu Marmatiei, and some famous words that I read there will always remain in my memory:”He, who forgets the past, is condemned to repeat it” (Santayana) and “When justice does not succeed in becoming a form of memory, memory alone CAN be a form of justice”(Ana Blandiana). These words impressed me even more after I found out the history that they refer to.
Placed in the former "Prison of the Ministers" in Sighet, the MEMORIAL of the Victims of Communism and anticommunist Resistance was opened in 1997 in the town of Sighetu Marmatiei ("Sighet") located in the far North West, in the beautiful Maramures region.
The prison, which was active from 1897 until 1977, takes its name from the period during the 1950s when it held many political prisoners (former government ministers, generals, academicians, and religious leaders - the cultural and political elite of Romania) in terrible conditions - brought here because it was thought to be particularly secure since the town was just 2km from the Soviet frontier. 180 prisoners were held in terrible conditions in 72 cells. Many were elderly but this didn't save them from beatings and punishment so it is no surprise that many died. These included one of the most respected pre-war politicians.
The Memorial Sighet was established as a reminder of the atrocities committed by the communist regime - for years the population has been brain-washed to create the so-called "New Man" through the rewriting of history and poisoning the memories of generations. Moral and civic values could only be recovered if the collective consciousness is recuperated. The Sighet prison was chosen because it was the first of many political prisons set up in Stalinist times and because it was where the country's political, spiritual and cultural elite of the pre-war democracy was exterminated.
An International Study Centre was established here because out of all of the former communist countries, Romania's experience had been the longest and most painful.

This week Alexandra invited Andrada , Alin and me to give an interview about the project reunion from Poland.

The interview was presented on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon at AXA TV.
I referred to the importance of these international meetings for building a common Europe while Andrada and Alin referred to the things that impressed them most in Poland:
the people’s wonderful hospitality, the way the hosting families tried to make them feel at home.

They spoke about the friendly atmosphere among all the participants.

They also referred to the most impressive visit in Poland, that from Auschwitz. Alin mentioned that this visit had fully impressed him and made him think of several questions without an answer: Why? What for?

Marian Ilea - Vacek

The prose writer and contemporary dramatist, Marian Ilea, who was awarded numerous national and international, literary prises, published (among many other books), a trilogy which contains Gravimeter, The House of Gorki Market and Vacek.

The central idea promoted in this trilogy is that of transfrontier between social spheres, cultures, and ethnics. This is introducing the idea of borderline, between the characters, what they are and what they want to be.

In the same time, it is revealed the cult of shame/guilt.

The trilogy is structured in two sections. At first the story is narrated in a classic form, in a burlesque way and finally, using the “balzacian” pattern. The trilogy contains dramas, inspired from “Realia and Utopia” areas. It is achieved through meditation. The author explores the paradox, providing an appearance of normality.

By analysing the setting of the novel, we can notice in its development different places. This way, Medio Monte becomes an “axis mundi”, around which the characters gravitate in an inevitable way. At first they experience different states from calmness and tranquilli to that of machinery characteristic to all the inhabitants.

The faun seems to be contaminated by a germ of intimations, send out by the town Council. Denouncing has a sotheriologycal function, just like a purgatory, which allows the envy, the abnormality or the obscure, to insert entirety.

One of the lait-motives of this trilogy is represented by a vision, from dream-weak up status, of its own burial, to the author’s opinion about the voice of community, (the cult of shame) in this situation.

The narrative plans appropriated to this trilogy are separated in three plans, alternative, parallel and, even in some cases, over loped.

As to chronology, it follows a linear trajectory, with many regressions, all this in a blend of reality…, fiction and dream, in which they aren’t elucidated the metafictional fragments.

Medio Monte becomes the main character, built up on an archetypical manner, situated “at the middle of Good and Evil”. It embodied the premonition, (animal diseases, lost minded miners, who get out, or not from the mine-exploitation).

Vacek Syrovy, the chief policeman, from Medio Monte, is one of those, who have hallucinations, related to an Idea. Along the story, we can notice that the chief policeman seems to be deeply inflexible, when searching the source of all the evils, which had happened in Medio Monte. He thinks that bishop Joseph Kollowitch, is behind all the delinquencies and crimes that took place in Medio Monte.

By reading the book, we can find out “Bakeries with an aspect of latrines […] Merchandises are fully covered with ledges”, all this representing images that really reach an apocalyptic level, that have the role of destroying the Medio Monte natural paradise. In this way, the statues of the market, this attributes is due to the invasion of the Galatians and the Albanians, all protected by Felicia Gruntag, colonel Rady`s widow.

“Vacek” represents an agony book. It` s the agony of an imaginary, well hold up, by the writer. The characters are reporting, themselves to the Great Mechanism, just as to a great religion. One of these characters will die, another one will escape from being marginalized, going by train to Brno. Hereby “Vacek” is a frothy book, irrational and hilarious sometimes, producing a carnival “topos”, where beneath the surface, it can be noticed a large series of funny, tragic-comic situation, and the surface structure of the text, on a second thoughts, is defined by bizarre situations, a-typically, un-centrated epic contexts.

This book can be easily described, according to the obvious paradox, in each manifestation of the genuine human being.

Au participat elevi ai Colegiului Eminescu precum si prof. Ligia Durus , inspector cu programele europene de la ISJ Maramures, Ileana Vasilescu, profesoara de geografie, Ramona Bencze, specialista in domeniul TIC.
Cu acest prilej a fost vernisata expozitia « Frontiere » in care au fost prezentate desene realizate de elevii Ana Susca, Magyar Kinga, Carmen Marosan, Victorita Cureu, Catalin Motoc, Oana Motica, Romana Maxim, Daniela Ciurdas, Diana Jecan, Georgiana Gogea, coordonati de catre profesoara de desen Cristina Rettegi.
In partea a doua a intalnirii a avut loc competitia pentru desemnarea celor doi reprezentanti ai Colegiului Eminescu la reuniunea de proiect din Polonia ( 9-14 mai 2006).
Candidatii au realizat prezentari PowerPoint cu temele Romania si Scriitori de frontiera.
Juriul a fost alcatuit din elevii participanti la reuniune.
Castigatorii desemnati au fost elevii Andrada Sas din clasa a X-a E si Alin Suteu din clasa a XI-E.
Cei doi elevi, insotiti de coordonatoarea proiectului, prof. Mariana Gabriela Hudrea, se vor intalni in Polonia cu echipele de la cele 6 licee partenere:

On March 22nd Mr. Marius Pavel from Club Tv Baia Mare invited me to speak about the importance of the study of foreign languages in Europe.

It was a great opportunity to explain how the e-group and the blog help my students improve their skills and competencies in English.

I also mentioned the visit to France and the way I encouraged the French students to learn foreign languages as the new Europe needs people mastering two foreign languages, at least.

January and February are two months in which the coordinators of European projects are very busy as February 1st is the deadline for Comenius projects and March 1st is the deadline for Grundtvig projects.

16:10 Grundtvig 1-ITEM- This project has a solid practical aspect as we are involved in producing an online course for ICT specialists.
Following the study developed in 2004- 2005 regarding the level of English as a communication tool we have discovered that the ICT specialists need such a course to improve their communicative skills in English.
Daniela Buda and Claudia Lupoian are collaborators in this project.
How are the collaborators selected? According to their wish to dedicate time to a new experience.
The partners come from Bulgaria, Hungary, Great Britain and the Check Republic.

R:Which is the contribution of GB?
Linguistic expertise.We are sure we will produce a high quality product.
19:25- R: Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania are countries in which English is a foreign language. How is it to produce a an English course?
In these countries there are very good specialists in English, appreciated by the British Council.
20:01- The coordinator is from Hungary.
20:10 – Kate Fazekas is coordinating large teams of specialists in several projects.
20:25- the site of the project is very good.
20:45- The work for G1ITEM helped Daniela in learning how to use AEL program in her school.

21:28- the description of the school from Ravoire, France and the way money is directed to schools in France . In the last 15 years in France there have been built very modern schools. Both students and teachers are calm and with smiling faces, compare d to Romanian teachers who have financial difficulties.
23-40 – But teachers are dedicated to their profession and they try to do their job.
In the French school the students read everywhere: on the staircase, in study rooms or in the Documentary Centers.
The students have their meals in the canteens together with the school staff. The local authorities sponsor the meals. There is a very well organized self-service system.
R: What didn’t you like in France?
I visited France during the riots in the suburbs. The explanation came that in school with parents belonging to the middle class, with a stable job, there are no problems. But in families of unemployed or in families with problems, the children have problems in their turn.
28:00 – By participating in European projects one learns a lot of things: how to travel, how to manage lost luggage problems, how to adapt to the customs of each country.
22:50 – Smoking is forbidden in all means of transport in France.
The strong relationship between school and family. The parents are strongly involved in the education of their children.
31:50 In Romania there have been created students’ associations. This partnership was active during the teachers’ strike in November 2005.
The message is that the whole society is invited to support school and education.

35:00 Leonardo da Vinci project- Evaluation Tools in Vocational Education.
There is a difference in perception of the term in Romania where the technical education is not included in vocational education while all over Europe it is.
Info Project is a subcontractor in the project having the task of disseminating the project. Last year we elaborated a study on the way the modern evaluation tools are known and to what extent they are used in the schools from Romania.
On the site of the Romanian Ministry of Education there are very good things. In theory the Romanians are very good.
Via the Analysis Study we realized that all the teachers who had participated in training courses are aware of the new tendencies in evaluation, while the others know practically nothing about that.
36:50- The team coordinating the Leo project is the same team that coordinated the G1-ITEM project.
37:00 – we are just involved in dissemination
We will continue the dissemination activities by participating at a new Congress, in Istanbul, organized by Istanbul University. In May 2005 we participated at a Congress in Istanbul where we presented the European projects. The interest was big, as these projects have been recently launched in Turkey.
Will teachers be able to use these new evaluation tools?
The product is being made exactly for this purpose.
What subjects could use such tools?
All subjects.
39:20_ The coordinating institution from Hungary organizes courses of ICT for disabled people, for example. We visited this school in 2003 and we were impressed by it.
This project meets the requirements in modern evaluation today.

40:00- Grundtvig 2 projects- The history of the project at the School of Arts from Baia Mare, a follow up of a previous G2 project. The same thing happened with Patre Dulfu County Library from Baia Mare which is also involve d in a G2 project as a continuation of the previous G2 project coordinated by us: “Active involvement in Nationl and European projects of retired or newly retired people”.
43:25_ Esperando Association, as association for disabled people also benefited of consultancy from Info Project.
43:35: we offer consultancy for European projects to all the people interested.
44:14- R: How can be written good projects?
44:28 - The secret is to speak foreign languages and to use the computer as a communication tool.
45:44 – These projects are not only for teachers of foreign languages. A good example is the European Schoolnet where one can see projects developed by teachers of Math, Physics, and Chemistry. I had been involved in an evaluation team for E-Awards and I noticed that there are many Romanian teachers of different subjects involved in creating websites.
47:28- We organize courses of foreign languages
47:43- There are 3 centers of foreign languages in Baia Mare: ECHO. EDUCONS and INFO PROJECT.
48:08 – Info Project has established a partnership with ECHO for promoting TOEIC and TFI tests.
In cooperation with the French Cultural Center from Cluj Napoca we organize courses of French for people willing to go to Canada.
48:36- Today, the learning of foreign languages is a must.
We do not mean only English. The European citizens must learn French and other European languages.51:00-R: As a conclusion, the Learning City is also learning through projects and foreign languages.

Living Along the Borderline

I cannot conceive borders without the concept of tolerance.
Borders mean to me the possibility of meeting new people, new habits, or other ways of life or thinking.
I cannot imagine learning something from borders without tolerance.
I had been living in a border town for 15 years and I met and lived with so many people so different from me.
They are Hungarians (the majority), Ukrainians, and Russians. They all have different life styles but if you respect them you'll see that so many good things can be learnt from them and finally you don't think at all that you are different from them. You don't think that they are "the others".
In my opinion borders mean accepting the others’ life style and taking from it the good aspects and learning from the bad ones. These two concepts, border and tolerance, cannot go one without another.
The other days I had a conversation with my uncle from the USA.
I asked him to buy me a CD with 50 cents and he asked me: "Do you like those music?? I can't believe that! They are like our gipsies!!"...And suddenly I discovered that he is not a tolerant man at all and he should be because "the Negroes" never did anything to him. I believe that he doesn’t know anything about them so he never got through this border. And it's a pity. I am sure that if he had wanted he could have learnt many things from them as I have from our minority groups..
Crossing borders means travelling with your mind all over the world and learning as much as you can. I am proud that I am a tolerant person and that I have crossed borders. This is a very important thing for me and I think it should be for all of us.

A World Without Borders

A society without borderlines

Let's say that we would hear that a country, no one knows where, is going to move its borderline because someone thought that his real place might be 3 kilometers away from that place.
A part of this people who would hear the news would say "...well it is not my business, they know what they are doing…”.
I would say “…it is my problem, it is our problem, because for so much time they put a border between us…”.
In fact, what is a borderline?
Thousands of years ago, in the prehistorically time, people didn’t have borders, they were only human beings fighting to survive.
Now we have to survive but in another world, in a world full of borders.
It is strange how, in a democratic world, we are closed, our liberty is closed.
There is a thing that they didn’t close between the borders.

It is our knowledge, our culture and we can still share it with those minds that are never closed.
Who didn’t think at a utopist world, a world without borderlines and a world where people are equals?
It would be wonderful, but till then no one can take our knowledge and the most important thing, no one can take our dreams.

Meeting a Frontier Writer - Students' feedback

Raluca's feelings

It is said that one person can change your life for ever … and that was the feeling I had a few moments after meeting Mr Marian Ilea –the writer, the most extraordinary human being I’ve met in my entire life.
It is strange how a person (of whose existence you’ve never known before) can influence you that much so as to see life in a different light and also to make you feel free to give your opinion on subjects on which I, honestly did not even dare to reflect. Mr Ilea “freed” my mind and starved, as it was, he started to nourish it… He had a lot of things to share with us but the only problem seemed to be the time even though he did not show to even believe in the existence of time, as a notion, after all.
Our gift- because Mr Ilea was supposed to be a gift (it was more than that!!!!) surprised us all firstly due to his natural and surprisingly normal presence. Through his way of behaving he helped us discover that all writers are in fact tangible presences and why not even humans, and definitely not immortals or any other supernatural existences. Moreover he helped us enter into Romania’s literary society and he also gave us the chance to know it as it is and not how we’ve been told to from our teachers. Now I do know that we, Romanians, have a rich and of high quality literature and that (some of) today’s Romanians writers can actually be very good. In this respect, Mr Ilea’s words made me understand that our generation can do a lot of things in order to help these modern writers. Their works have to be known and advertising is the key!! If we (lucid beings) encourage, through the media, people to read works of high quality and if we show them which is the standard for quality our culture will be saved!!!!!!!!!
So, Mr Ilea, I’m very looking forward to reading your books and not only, and I promise you I’ll do my best to always choose quality and to admire (even if you do not approve) the writers that are worth being admired. Because, you see, despite all that you’ve said the writer remains covered in a heavenly and magical obscurity. Finally, I’ll have to disapprove you, Mr Marian Ilea- the writer, and say that being a writer is more than having a job; and I’ll say this in Romanian too: A fi scriitor e mult mai mult decat o meserie!!! It’s knowledge through which writers like you keep people like us alive!

I start by saying that the meeting on Saturday, 04.03.2006 was the best experience of my life. It was my first meeting with a writer.
I was very pleased to meet Mr. Marian Ilea.
I think that I could have stayed and listened to him for hours and hours and I would have wanted more.
I liked very much the way he was talking to us. It is a very open-minded person. Mr. Marian Ilea fascinated me completely, and he raised in me the interest for literature. I was really impressed by the familiar way Mr. Marian Ilea behaved.
I must admit that at first when I found out that a frontier writer was coming I was a little bit nervous, but as soon as I saw him and he started to talk, I was all ears and soon I noticed I wasn’t nervous any longer. I must say that I wanted very much to ask him a question but I was too impressed to think of one. Mr. Marian Ilea made me very curious about his books, especially “Desistea”, and I will certainly read it.
Besides the incredible meeting with Mr. Marian Ilea, the whole meeting on Saturday was great. Mrs. Mariana Hudrea is a great person, and even if I didn’t know her before the meeting, I can say that she is the best teacher. A person who cares for her students. After the meeting I can say that I don’t regret at all that I am involved in this project.

My “borderline” feelings

On the 4th of March 2006 I lived the most unbelievable experience in my life .
It was such a joyful Saturday for me.
Even if the meeting we had been invited to attend was programmed for only 1 hour, we got out of there after three and a half hours.
And you know why? Because we felt very well together. I could even say that after that meeting we are just like a small family: “the borderline family”.
I like very much my colleagues from the project. Even if we are in the same high school, I didn’t have the chance to really know them, to see how they live, what their feelings are. But after this meeting I felt closer to them.

I live in a beautiful town called Baia Mare with very nice people, and very beautiful places , like the places that are in the whole Maramures county.
This part of Romania has the borderline with another Eastern Europe country, Ukraine. This part of Romania is known in the whole country as a place full of history, full of traditions and with very charming people.

I personally feel proud because I am living in a borderline county. We are very close to our neighbors, the Ukrainians.
Some Ukrainians, living in Romania, are students at Colegiul National “Mihai Eminescu”, Baia Mare, and with this occasion, I had the opportunity to be in contact with them , to see how they feel in Romania , and I also want to know if Ukraine is different from ours and in which way. Most of the people say that if you live in a borderline county you aren’t very familiar with the real world and you are isolated. But those words aren’t true at all. I feel very good in my county, because my friends are here, they help me whenever I want, and in my county the people are very respectful with the strangers, and very warm to them.
So, if some of you, who read this essay will visit my county, you should know that in this part of Europe you will find all you need to fill at home, because you will be surrounded by the Romanians people , a very friendly and good nation.
We will wait for you in Romania, to visit Maramures and it’s surroundings!

Hello teacher!

I am very pleased by the meeting that occured on Saturday.

I think that the meeting was a great success because you and even the writer Mr Ilea gave to us a "push" in trying to do a better job in this project. I hope that we all will do a great job in presenting Romania to the others.

But still I would like to talk about many things with the students from abroad.

In a few words the meeting was very succesful . I hope that from now on everyone will be motivated to go on with this project. After this meeting I realised that I enlarged my knoledge.

Proiectul îşi propune abordarea ideii de frontieră, atât din punct de vedere fizic cât şi metaforic, ţinând cont de definiţiile pozitive ( un pod/punte spre ceva nou, un loc al posibilităţilor), de cele problematice ( frontiera ca barieră, limită, obstacol) şi chiar cauzatoare de conflicte ( problematica alegerii şi a apartenenţei).
Proiectul se apropie de teme cum ar fi cunoaşterea celor diferiţi de noi, respectul faţă de ceilalţi, sensul identităţii.
Pe de alta parte , în timp ce respectăm caracteristicile individuale , proiectul tinde să introducă valorile absolute de integrare, inter- culturalitate si teritorialitate.
Toate acestea se realizează printr-o cercetare care implica diferite aspecte şi se bazează pe date obiective ( in special istorice, economice si legale), dar si pe interpretarea experienţelor de viaţă, a povestirilor şi a mărturiilor exprimate prin diferite forme ale atei.
Rezultatele aşteptate se pot exprima pe de o parte prin cunoştinţe dobândite în termeni de dezvoltare umana, şi pe de alta parte, de dezvoltare culturală.
Obiectivul principal pe care dorim să-l atingem este o educaţie spre o Europă fără bariere şi graniţe, fără obstacole care sa limiteze dialogul intre popoare.

Romania and its image outside the borders

1. Romania… a magic land of traditions, customs and moral values preserved here for centuries…an amazing country with an indescribable beauty of the landscape and a large variety of the relief, combining stately mountains, rolling hills and fertile fields. A place where time seems to have stopped in order to admire itself the wonders of this nature…also including Maramures, a region with magnificent wooden churches, traditional music, colourful costumes and ancient festivals, where rural ancient life appears to have remained intact.Nearly all the travellers are impressed with the general warmness and friendliness people here tend to welcome them; and if a tourist shows any interest in their country and wants to know more about its history or culture, Romanians will gladly offer to help him (in villages, he even might be invited into someone's home).Unfortunately, this truly world treasure is barely known outside the borders, and, paradoxically, many people from other countries seem to have a different and negative view about it. Not only is it seen as an underdeveloped country, but also some foreigners tend to question its political, social, economical values and its possibility to join the European Community.Their doubts- supported by a former difficulty of catching up with the standards of the Europe (partially due to the Ceausescu's Communist dictatorship, which had isolated the country from the West) - do not have anymore a real basis as the Romanian government together with the population are doing their best to lay by their country to the European standards .In this context, problems like the tension between the minority groups and the rest of the population or the high number of homeless children and orphans are getting a particular attention (besides corruption, for example), but not the needed one. Furthermore, a slight change in the attitude towards the minorities and a re-evaluation of the priorities and values will be appropriate, meaning an important step to a modern Romania.If these problems are worked out, the country's image outside the borders will be automatically improved. The Romanians will not be seen anymore as thieves, having no sense of good manners and begging in the streets, but in their real image: nice-looking, strong-minded and proud about their natural heritage and culture.Only then, Romania will be appreciated to its real value. It will offer the world its cultural and natural heritage and it will develop more its sense of identity.

2. A REALITY

The numerous beauties of our country are still a mystery for the majority of the Europeans, not to mention those that belong to other continents. The spirit of belonging to a country, especially a country like Romania that has so many things to offer, unites all Romanians and it is their simplicity, vitality and closeness to nature that make them so special and different.A Romanian will always be a Romanian no matter of the continent he or she settled in, the college he/she graduated from or the size of his banking account; it is our unique spirit that always shines through and our strong will and power that make us winners.Unfortunately, the Romanians were stereotyped as bad-mannered (in a “polite” way), aggressive and unreliable or simply as gypsies… .This is a common mistake that most rich countries make, that is to judge without having looked for reliable information first. Indeed, a foreigner who has never visited Romania, will not be able to give (nor to have) an objective opinion on the country or its inhabitants and needless to say, he does not have the right to do it. “The others” couldn’t possibly learn about Romania or about any other country in particular, only by reading a leaflet, a magazine, surfing the Internet, etc. Knowing a Romanian in person is very important, if not vital, and by abolishing this first border powerful bonds manage to be created in no time. One single “authentic” Romanian is able to change hundreds of points of view that foreigners have had for centuries (and still have!!!!!!!!!!!!!)The way foreigners see us, the Romanian people, hasn’t changed very much in the last couple of years. For them we still are, all of us, gypsies, illiterate people, a sub-developed country with inhabitants dying of starvation and beggars. Isn’t it all a bit too much?????? Why are the others better than we are??? A single honest and literate voice can change, even at a restricted scale,” misconceptions older than the concept itself “becoming a proof of what we are or of what we can be. Through each one of us that really wants to make a difference, Romania is more accessible to foreigners! If there is will there is power and indeed the power to overcome all kind of obstacles.I personally think that Romania should stand out for its beliefs and first of all, for its right to be seen through objective eyes and to be judged without any prejudices. These prejudices kill the Romanian spirit in each of us!To sum up, I think that Romania has very much to offer and its availability to do it is already a well-known fact. The others will just have to empty their minds of any prejudice or misjudgement and open their hearts. Through the power of our will we will conquer your hearts.

3.How are we (as people/country/ nation) and how do the others see us?

Romania, an interesting country with interesting people, should be considered a symbol of diversity.If we want to be realistic and to better understand the society we live in, we ought to discover and analyse everything that surrounds us, from cultural and social issues, to the differences among people, reflected in their way of life and customs. I think that we, the Romanians, as part of our society, were brought up as being concerned to live in a proper way, to behave as good as we can, but also to think about the others. We are generally open-minded persons, realistic ones, we want to improve our living standards, but also to hope for a better life.Unfortunately, nobody can be perfect. Therefore, we should admit that our society still faces several problems and the best solution consists in our focusing on the different ones which are still sensed among us. Here in Romania, people should be more tolerant with others, because neglecting social difficulties won’t solve anything.My point of view is that the relationship between the Romanians and the others reflect the way we are seen by other peoples, not always from a correct angle. The main problem is represented by the lack of communication and tolerant attitudes. Even if many of us are intelligent, honest and interesting people, not many foreigners get to see us as we really are. They are influenced by the mass media, which often gives a twisted image of our country, emphasizing only the negative aspects. We cannot blame foreigners if they compare us with thieves, gipsies which are street beggars in their countries, or other things connected to human vices. They cannot see who we really are because, partially, we didn’t give them the opportunity. In this case, we are the guilty ones. Maybe we aren’t strong enough to express our beliefs, so eventually we let them judge us without even considering our thoughts. On the other hand, foreigners don’t want to explore our real world, they don’t enter it and they prefer to stay near the borders and do nothing.Romania deserves more attention and respect from the others. We must make efforts in order to show them that we are normal citizens, only that we need their help and understanding to minimize the negative aspects of our society, to reach their standards.As a conclusion, I should say that everybody needs to be more tolerant with the others, as each person and society has a bright and a dark side.

4. How are we and how do the others see us?

Romania is the largest country on the Balkan Peninsula of Eastern Europe.Decades of Communists rule left Romania one of te poorest countries in Europe. The capital is Bucharest.That’s how Romania really is, but how do the others see it?Well, few peope know that Romania is a large country and many consider that Budapest is the capital.It’s so sad to see how badly informed people are.It’s a shame that other countries know so few things about one of the loveliest places.Tourists are attracted by the Black Sea.One of the highlights are the dolphins,many species of fish and birds,like the pelican. Romania has also beautifull mountains,like the Carpathian Mountains.In winter peope can sky and play in the .Romania is truly an attraction for tourists,with hot summers and cold winters.Another highlight about our country are the plants and the animals.Foreigners appreciate the beautifull forests,with oak trees,bleech,fir and spruce.Romanian’s wildlife includes very rare species of animals such as the goatlike chamois.The forests are the home for many birds like the vultures and eagles and also for red deers,foxes,wolfs and many others species of animals.These are all the goods Romania has to offer.Unffortunetly the Communist rule transformed our country in a very poor one.A very sad period was the leadership of Nicolae Ceausescu.All criticism about him were fiercely punished and many country resources were wasted.The peope had to endure a very sad period ,but the communism had a good part too,despite what the others belive.Romanians had a quarantee that when they become 18 they will get a job and that they could easy get a flat.We must see the good part in every bad experience.Few foreigners know what the Romanians had to endure,but in December 1989 they protested against the Communism.Ceausescu was arrested and executed.Since that period the country began to progress,slowly,but constantly.It’s a shame that despite all the beauties this country has to offer,the foreign countries see us just as an poor former communism country.The gypses are seen with bad eyes and the Romanians belive that they are the major problem why our country is so badly seen by others.Romania has the duty to make what’s the best to show its qualitiess to become a better place and to become more tolerant with others.Let’s hope that our membership in NATO and hopefully in the UE will make us a better seen country.

5. HOW ARE WE AND HOW DO OTHERS SEE US?

Romania – the land of orphan children and homeless people”. “Romania – the gipsy land”. “Romania – a land of misery and corruption”.
“Romania – a land deprived of civilization...”Whether we like it or not, these are the most frequent associations which occur in the strangers’ minds when they are asked about Romania. For more than 15 years, we have done very few to improve our own country’s image. And we are the only ones to be blamed for not having fought enough.But we have to admit that strangers are far from being wrong. We DO have a lot of problems to deal with, concerning gipsies, orphan children, poor people and misery on the streets (and not only). And the worst thing is that we let all these affect the others too, and by this I’m referring to the gipsies that go abroad and steal or to the poor people who annoy strangers when they visit Romania – or even in their own country – by begging. In my opinion, beggars are one of our greatest problems.Even so, if you interview strangers on what they know about Romania, you will be surprised that they do know even good things, mainly locations or Romanian famous people, especially sportsmen. A survey made on Germans, French and British reveals surprising information. Many of them see Romania as a ”painting” with beautiful women, or they admire the Romanian’s character ( friendly, hard-workers, glad to help, cheerful). They also mention Romania’s extraordinary landscapes and the famous Dracula.Unfortunately, we still make a lot of mistakes and a major one is that we do not protect our environment and, as a result, Romania is one of the countries in which the rate of pollution is very high.But we all want to fight to improve our living standards and international image. And even a single person CAN make a difference. A single Romanian’s attitude towards strangers is very important in forming an opinion about who you are, reported to ”where you come from”. Through your own existence you create an image of your own country. We will be perceived by the way we behave, by our values as human-beings. We all are important in changing our image, we all have to take the matter in our own hands, we all have to fight to make things better.In my opinion, the creation of a new and favourable image of Romania throughout the world will require time, professionalism, coordination and cohesion in communication. Until then, Romania will continue to be perceived by strangers as a corrupt and bureaucrat country, a country of gipsies and conmen, deprived of civilization and future perspectives.
In conclusion, we need to spend more money and efforts on education, health, fighting poverty and corruption and the positive results will not be late.

1. Conclusions on the research activity

Following the discussions we had as part of the debate on the pollution of the environment, during Mrs. Camelia Duta’s optional Biology classes, the theme of pollution had a strong impact on the participants. They became aware of how serious the problems concerning the environment are, and also that new solutions should be found to improve the quality of the environment as well as to protect it.
As far as the accident on the Tisa is concerned, we feel that this incident, as serious as it was, was presented on the media as far more devastating than it really was. We do not want to show indifference to the accident by saying this; we only want to stress the fact than the gravity of the accident was exaggerated due to state problems as well interference, from the border.
We deeply regret the accident, and we believe that it is extremely important that the area on the Tisa, which was affected, should be cleaned and rebuilt as soon as possible.
To this purpose, we, together with our coordinator, Mrs. Camelia Duta, went on a trip on the Tisa, to document and father information about the seriousness of the situation. We are committed to take part first hand in rebuilding the area, our participation in such activities being constant. A proof of this stands our contribution to the “Mihai Eminescu” reservation in Seini, which was extremely beneficial. We wish our contribution to this project to be the same, in the hope of a fast rehabilitation of the area.
The resources of this planet are more and more limited, and beside the fact that they are used in an abusive way, they’re also polluting. The pollution worries me, about the quality of living, and the fact that some people are not responsible, and, by not taking care of their responsibilities, they help increase the pollution. It all starts from people’s mentality, starting with the normal citizens, and ending with the big polluting factories. Very few are the people who really care about the surrounding environment, and most of them don’t bother to think about the consequences that may occur in the future, because of their irresponsibility. Some people, for example, think that a paper or a P.E.T doesn’t affect the environment in any way, and even if it does affect it, they think that there are others in charge to repair that; not to mention the big factories, witch only want to gain a big profit, even if that means destroying the environment.
The effects of the pollution are terrible. One of the worse effects is the influence of the pollution over the health of people. Pollution caused loss of a lot of lives, caused lots of diseases, genetic malformations and also destroyed the flora and the fauna, which is an essential element in the survival of the human species on Earth. In most countries, including Romania, pollution is a major problem in which, even if, theoretically, we do have the solution, it can’t be reached because our country doesn’t have modern technologies, which could help reduce the pollution. The process of recycling some products is a good start in reducing the pollution. For example, in the paper producing, there are some processes that pollute, but by recycling, we save the green gold, witch is the forest, witch, unfortunately, for some people, this doesn’t represent a source of life, it represents only a source of income. Another worse effect is global warming. Researches proved that pollution is the first thing responsible for the global warming, and there’s no sense in mentioning the negative part of the global warnings: the meteorological phenomenon and the variations of the temperature, which directly affects the life on Earth.
Even if some of the pollution’s effects are totally irreversible, I still believe tat the Earth is not yet doomed, and by training of the population about how the pollution directly affects health and environment, positive changes could and will occur.

Tolerance vs. Intolerance

1. To be tolerant or not

Tolerance is a word often used in speaking, at T.V or in newspapers.
But are we really tolerant each other? Are we tolerant with our neighbors, with our friends, with our people?
How would be this world without peace, without tolerance?
We have more than other people in this world could dream about. We have love, we have friends, we have a family and all support that we need and we are still considered as poor people. Imagine that thousands, perhaps millions of children in this world who don’t have a family, not mentioning friends and love.
So, how would be this world without tolerance, better or worse?
Tolerance is based on respect and when the respect is missing tolerance has not the same meaning. We should respect each other. Respect means not only to help an old lady to cross the street but also to understand that a child that you see at a corner of a street for begging is not there because he wants to be there but he is there because he doesn’t have money to buy food for him and for his family. And all this is not necessarily happening because his mother or his father doesn’t want to work but because no one has offered them a job.
Some of us would say “Oh, this is his problem, not mine”. But it is our problem, our major problem.
We should learn to be tolerant one to another because this is the major problem of this century “to be tolerant or not”.

Tolerance vs. Intolerance

The notion of tolerance as we understand it today is, first of all, a need of today’s modern society. It is the element that unites all links of a chain that is supposed to form the basis of a perfect society, a united world- a Utopia.
Although tolerance has an overwhelming importance at all the levels of the society and is still a word that produces many disputes and serious talks, there is, surprisingly or not, nothing easier than being( and acting!!!) tolerant. Tolerance is –or at least it should be-, a natural response generated by our own mature and advanced minds and conscience. Are we, the people of the 21st century, tolerant? If not, are we at least trying to be? Are we to blame intolerant people?
It is a reality that sometimes tolerant people change into intolerant, ignorant or even worse due to the behaviour or actions of the persons they have tried to accept. Yes, we are tired of being deceived, taken in by those to whom we have put our trust in. Let’s take for example gypsies. They are in a way or another responsible for the bad impression other nations have on us. We gave them more than a country and in return they destroyed our reputation and deleted hundreds of years of Romanian history and culture from the other peoples’ minds. However, I have personally met extraordinary and successful persons who are gypsies and they made me change my attitude towards them.
There are Gypsies and Gypsies, Romanians and Romanians, Hungarians and Hungarians, English and English… Every country has citizens of which the country is proud of and citizens that must be accepted and… helped but everything within its limits. We have to be tolerant in order to live a happy life; we have to care for the needs of the other, accept his/her beliefs, way of life, traditions and encourage the others to do the same thing. The key is to know how to tell a good and honest man from a pack of starving wolves.
The truth is that we must be more than tolerant; we have to learn what acceptance is and really give our best to change things for the better.

2. TOLERANCE VERSUS INTOLERANCE

A peaceful and happy life requires love, understanding, and respect. To live in harmony means to accept other people’s beliefs and hobbits without criticizing, even if we sometimes disagree with them.
It is very important for us to understand that we are all different: we look different, we think different and we live in different ways. But we are all humans, we all have feelings and we feel frustrated and attacked if the society doesn’t understand us or – even worse – it rejects us.
This is, unfortunately, the case of gipsies from Romania. It is maybe one of our greatest mistakes: we are highly intolerant with gipsies, and we have been like this from the very beginning, without offering them a real chance to prove we are wrong.
It is true that they do a lot of illegal things, such as stealing, fighting, taking drugs or even killing. But have we once – at least for a second – thought that all these could be provoked not only by them, but also by our intolerant behaviour?!
To be honest, I have to admit that I was also very intolerant until we discussed this matter in class. Then I realised how wrong I had been judging the gipsies and I started reading more about them and thinking about their situation.
Lately, there are more and more negative aspects, which are getting worse every day, between gipsies and the rest of the population. One of our biggest mistakes – say the specialists in this field – besides intolerance, is that we do not make the difference between the two kinds of gipsies. When we pronounce the word ”gipsy” we only think of all those stereotypes that we have created for them: „gipsies thieves”, „violent gipsies”, „beggars gipsies”, „illiterate gipsies”, „gipsies infractors” or „gipsy Mafia”. And these stereotypes can be misleading, because not all the people from a nation are the same. Just like there are bad Romanians as well as good ones, there are also good gipsies. We should not only see their bad aspects, but also the good ones. We should appreciate them for their talents. For example, they can be great singers, and also very smart. We only have to give them the chance to prove it, to prove that they deserve a better treatment.
In time, we had made a lot of mistakes concerning their problems, to which we haven’t paid enough attention. The local offices didn’t contribute to stopping the attacks over the gipsy communities and – worse – they even encouraged the violent attacks that took place, through passivity and tacit agreement. The government authorities are known for the frequent encouragement of violent acts made by the Civil Guard.
The discrimination and intolerance also appears in education. The gipsy community is the least educated minority from Romania. Most of the gipsies who went to school only finished four or eight classes. Very few managed to finish high school and even lesser graduated a university. The number of illiterates from the gipsy community is unfortunately very high: 44% of the men and 59% of the gipsy women are illiterate.
But we can’t blame only gipsies for that, as they were always criticized and isolated, but very rarely helped. The gipsy children are always discriminated because of the way they are dressed. Poverty is regarded as a synonym for stupidity and, therefore, many gipsy children are isolated in the back of the class and ignored. Due to this kind of cruel treatment and because of the poverty, the gipsy children rarely finish school and that is way it is difficult for them to find work. This is one of the causes of the increase in delinquency and poverty. That’s why we should also be interested in their education and we need to create conditions where they can learn and adapt.
The members of this minority have to face a lot of problems, regarding all life’s aspects. In the past they were treated as a property which can be sold or bought, just as the owner wished, and they were considered inferior beings, that had no feelings. Their life today is not very different and their position in society hasn’t at all improved. Their low standards of life, the lack of water and electricity as well as their unawareness concerning the importance of hygiene lead to the extension of diseases and to a high rate of infantile mortality.
The conclusion I drew from all these is that we must give up intolerance. If we truly want to solve these problems, the effort must come from both sides – our community and the gipsy community – because throwing the blame on each other is only a certain path to failure. Radical changes are necessary, not only in the gipsy communities, but also outside them. We mostly need a change in mentality. The authorities should show a deeper understanding of the problems and should offer more support. But , in most cases, we all have to get over our prejudices.

“ How are we and how do the others see us?”
Conclusions on the essays written by students

In December 2005 I asked all my students from Mihai Eminescu National College , Baia Mare, Romania, to write an essay on our country with the title “ How are we and how do the others see us?”
The idea of such an essay came from Mrs. Roxana Pruncu, the project coordinator from M. Kogalniceanu Highschool, Vaslui, Romania.

Willing to get very honest and sincere opinions from my students I refrained myself from giving them indications. I just asked them to write an essay on the above-mentioned topic.

To my greatest surprise I noticed the students wrote very interesting essays.
The students were so respectful and treated the subject with incredible seriousness.

All the essays were politically correct. That does not mean they were not critical whenever the case.
The students tried to be objective and their opinions were well balanced pointing out both positive and negative aspects. However I have noticed sometimes that their opinions are strongly influenced by the newspaper articles and television programs. They used the same stereotypes and clichés.
That is mostly because most of them did not have the opportunity to travel abroad or meet foreigners.
It is interesting to notice that those who actually met foreigners and those who did not, both have complained on the bad image of the country abroad, considering that a very frustrating thing. According to all of them this image is mostly due to the behavior of some of our citizens.
They have complained about some gypsies and beggars who do not behave properly. I have noticed here a lack of tolerance.(That is why I have already asked them to write a new essay on tolerance. This time I have invited them to try to control their feelings and teach themselves how to be more tolerant towards certain ethnic groups.)
They all believe that because of the behaviour of the above mentioned groups the European citizens have such a bad opinion on Romania and on the Romanians.
They have all pointed out the fact that once the Europeans get into contact with other Romanians or once they get into direct contact with the country, they totally change their low opinion on us.
Some of them have pointed out the fact that because of communism our country’s development was slowed down.
They are all proud of the fact that Romania is part of NATO and our soldiers are actively involved in peace missions all over the world.
They are also looking forward to becoming members of the European Union in 2007.
They try to find explanations of the high number of Romanians who work abroad pointing out the fact that most of them are forced to do that in order to assure a better life for their families, considering this situation temporary.
They are proud to be Romanians and they strongly believe in the future development of the country.
They believe in democracy and in a prosperous future.
They do not forget to mention the geographical beauties of the country, the touristic potential and they are proud of the national cultural values. They are proud of our historical past. Communism is seen as the single dark period in our history.
They are proud of our great musicians, writers, painters, and sportsmen.
They like the fact that the foreigners love the way we keep our traditions alive.

As a conclusion I can say that the young generation is fully confident in a better future.
I must admit, when I gave them the task, my expectations had been quite different.
I did not think they could be so mature and so optimistic regarding the future of Romania.
Now I am confident that the young generation will definitely improve life in Romania in the near future.
